They cannot be reprogrammed. Dealers don't even program the new ones on these cars MBUSA does it and ships them to the dealer. Only thing you can do is buy a new key and it will come chrome since the black one is obsolete.
I believe that there are sme locksmiths who have purchased special equipment who CAN program keys.
Sadly, they charge what the market will bear, so similar to what a dealer charges. So for additional keys, may as well go to a dealer.If someone knows better, please post.
If you have a black key like that which isn't qworking right, it can be fixed.
If it isn't keyless go, it's "brain" can even be moved into a similar Chrome key. But it has to have a oval shaped Panic button.
The Triangle shaped ones can't be used this way, which explains why Ebay is full of them for $10/each while the Oval NKLG ones go for $60-100.
