C55 Paddle Shifter Incident

Valeted my car at a hotel in downtown Louisville. The gentleman brings it back and my paddle shifter is hanging about 10 inches out of its correct location (please see pictures). Apparently his knee hit it and broke it off, then got it caught and yanked the wiring. Thought it would be an easy fix by sliding the wiring back in and possibly replacing the plastic piece that holds it in. Not the case. The shifter button no longer works to change the gear. Took it to the dealership and they claim that the only way it can be fixed is with a $2,346 new steering wheel. There has to be an easier/cheaper way to fix it. Please help!

That's pretty much the same advice I got from my mechanic and an independant software guy who was able to bypass the old COMMAND software to restorce functionality to my stereo unit. It seems like rewiring or replacing the shifter would be a more reasonable approach, but so far, I'm not seeing any indication that would be possible. -c

Get the cash settlement and buy replacement steering wheel from ebay. Hopefully clock spring is ok. Nothing complicated about steering wheel swap. It is DIY doable.
