https://www.ebay.com/itm/ESL-Emulato...378925&vxp=mtr
This ebay "made in China" emulator suggests you can bypass the ESL..anybody with some data on this item..?..where do the 3 wires hook up to, the EIS or ESL connector..?.. Also infers no recoding needed.
Much Appreciated

I was under the impression the 05 W203 C55 has an "Electronic Steering Lock" ( that "whirring on taking the key IN/OUT is the small unlocking motor that is famous for failing) in coordination with the ignition switch (Electronic Ignition Switch or EIS) like other later MB's, W204's for sure. Am I mistaken ? That would be good news to hear since it is a reason for me to reconsider buying a local high mileage C55.

When I insert and remove my key, I do hear a whirring sound, always have for 210,000+ miles. Are you having an issue?

I have a C55 in mind that is being sold after the ESL failed and was hoping the emulator which is an easy plug n play, unlike the later w204's, was a fix. The fact that you have over 210,000 miles and the small ESL motor is still working suggests a lot of those miles where non stop highway if I had to guess. My C300 with the same system was a daily errand driver with a lot of start/stop with key out cycles and the ESL failed at 53,000 miles. From what i have found the after market emulator plugs into the W203 ESL connector which is fairly accessible.

Regardless of miles, it's a daily driver of the past 13 years. So that's 13 years of at least two key in-outs per day. I honestly hadn't heard of ESL failures on these cars, and I've been on this C55 forum for a long time...
