Valve/Rocker noise or exhaust noise due to aftermarket headers? Video attached!
Long story short.......
‘’I purchased a 2006 C55 from a local shop who had performed all the valve work on the car prior to delivery. I had him put Kleemen headers along with high flow cats and deleted the resonator. The exhaust sounds amazing but the engine is making a lot of noise. I had brought it up to the seller on more than one occasion and he assured me, it’s the headers.
I took delivery of the car for my son. Every time I heard this engine running, I couldn’t get over the fact on how loud the tapping noise really was.
I asked once more and I was told it was nothing.
I went to the dealer this morning for an alignment and to verify the cause of the noise and they diagnosed the noise coming from the upper half of the engine....
Long story short, the seller is adamant saying it’s still the exhaust.
I need an unbiased honest opinion from someone who knows this engine with headers on them.
Please listen to this video especially towards the end when my son revs the car to 1500
I feel like I’m going crazy as it sounds like top engine noise.....Hoping I can get more input.

The only way the headers are making that noise is due to leaks. Get a stethoscope at harbor freight and listen for exhaust leaks. What kind of valve work was done? Why?

The engine had a ticking sound due to a bad lifter. Replacing all of the lifters and it’s still making a noise. I used a mechanics stethoscope and I found the noise to be coming from the passenger side valve cover area.

Maybe he he had a bad lifter on one of the new ones?
