Question Has anybody Dyno'd 93 Octane setting???

Has anyone ever done a before and after with the 93 octane setting? Does anyone have any idea if there is actually a power gain by having this done and by how much. I have had the setting since new, so no chance for a before and after.

Thanks...

Have you had it since new b/c you're in Canada? I thought our Canadian cars came with 92octane minimum? If they changed it, what dealership did it? i'd like to get mine done too.

Going to dyno on the 28th of august with 93 octane and 93 octane setting in cpu management. Will post the results! Also, anyone else who is interested, we are hosting a dyno day in the Northeast (worcester, MA) - $50 for 2 consecutive pulls w/a/f readouts! PM me if you want more info or visit http://dynoperformance.com/dynoday.php

I only use, and have used for many years, Chevron Supreme Plus with an Octane rating of 93. We have the same settings as every other C32 in the world with the highest setting being the 93 setting.

I have always wondered why the British magazines seem to test the C32's with better results. I thought maybe they are set from the factory at 91 or 93 due to better fuel?? Or is it due to the colder climate and thus higher output from the supercharger (colder air).

Anyways I thought someone might have these answers.............

Sorry, I had it changed in North Vancouver. I had it reconfirmed in Vancouver during service.

I suspected that there was some sort of increase with the 93 octane setting. Now here is my thinking. I am going to get the Evosport ODPS, but not the Powerchip (software upgrade) as I do not see the additional value added by this. If I am already up 25HP from stock, the ODPS will add benefit, but will there be that much additional benefit from the software change????? Is the 93 octane setting picking up part of the gains of the software upgrade already, therefore making the additional $1500 cost not really worth it???

I guess I am struggling whether to pay $1349 or $2890 if I already have the 93 octane setting. Any experienced feedback would be appreciated.

No. AMG does not say you will have 25 more HP by changing the setting.

I suggest everyone perform a search. This topic has come up before.

In Belgium, your octane rating is most likely calculated in RON, rather than MON.

http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/R...RONMONPON.html

According to the above link, your 98 RON octane is basically equal to our 90 MON....your 100 RON = our 91.5 MON. I always run 93 MON (or about the same as your 103 RON).

BTW, they sell NASCAR 100 pump octane (MON) at a station near me :v The NASCAR 100 MON runs about $4.50/gallon and would equal about 111 RON!

Hope this helps!

Yes, many have said they can't feel a difference. Others say their c32s have more pep. If there is any gain, it is less than 25hp for sure. Probably 5hp, but I'm only speculating. I'm dynoing my C32 at the end of this month. Will report my stock #s w/93 octane setting in this forum. And anyone else who is interested in dynoing in Northeast Area on August 28th, PM me!

93 is euro setting and it can be done at your dealer because usually north america has 91... a UK car mag tested it 0-60 in 4.7 sec 13@107

Before I bought my car, I looked online for comparisons and all the overseas C32vsM3 had the C32 quicker and pulling away. The US magazines has the opposite results (usually). At first I thought the US magazines might be biased towards BMW, but now I am thinking that it might have something to do with the programming from the factory in the country of origin. Most of the overseas articles I read had the C32 in the 4.5-5.0 second range. Is it a combination of things, including air temperature, computer setting and .........????????

Fuel settings can NO LONGER be changed as of 2003 using a DAS system from the dealer. All settings stored in the MPFI module cannot be changed without authorization from Germany. They will check your vin, issue a SCN code, which can then be programmed into the car. But this is usually only done when replacing a MPFI module and not done to modify one. Better check with one of the tuners instead.

Cool. I scheduled the appointment for changing to 93 octane on Thursday. The dyno day is again on the 28th. It is unfortunate that I can't get before and after dyno results, but if I'm making more hp than most stock cars, we'll have a pretty good idea if this setting is bogus or legit.

Look gentlemen, we have chewed this topic before numerous times. In the end there did not seem to be any difference between 91 and 93 settings. When dynoying your C32 use following steps:

Number 1. Make sure it is a DYNOJET. Any other brand and you are wasting your time.

Number 2. Shop should have at least two 36'' or larger fans. When they come on, stand behind your car. You should feel air flowing around.

Number 3. Disregard first run. Allow at least 5-7 minutes between each run and make sure they are done in 3rd or 4th gear from 3.5K to redline.

Number 4. Do not let the dyno shop rush you. Negotiate time not number of runs.

Have fun and good luck.

That is quite a statement. There are quite a few that are MORE accurate then DYNOJET. In fact, DYNOJET dynos are notoriously inaccurate. They are used for people who want bragging rights, not accuracy.

Unless your gas pump despenses 93 octane gas, don't change your setting from 91. Different parts of the country/world offer different grades of gas and the computer allows for this adjustment to be made manually. There is absolutely no benefit in running 93 octane in a car programmed to run 91. The same will hold true with running 100 octane race fuel at the track while the computer is still programmed to 91. Unless significant software and hardware modifications are made to the engine to take advantage of the higher octane level fuel, it's all in your head if you think you go faster with higher octane fuel. Thousands of articles on this subject.

The Dynojet is the most commonly used and therefore the most easily comparable as a point of reference. The Clayton's will produce numbers 10 - 20% lower, but are just a good for tuning if you don't mind the outcome numbers less than what others see on a Dynojet.

Forget the tuners

1.Forget the tuners! Just change the program to run 93. Pump 93 into your tank and happy motoring.
