aftermarket brake disk alternatives?
My girlfriend's C32 is in need of a new set of front rotors (worn and slightly warped). I noticed the rotors have directional venting yet they were the same on both sides, making the venting much less effective on one side. The rotors have never been replaced, so I was suprised Mercedes would make such a mistake on the production line. The dealer parts guy looked up the part number and was suprised to find that there is only one rotor part number for the car despite the directional venting.
As a former automotive engineer I was also shocked that Mercedes would cheap out like this on such an expensive performance car! even if you are going to go with a single part number left and right you should just make the vents straight. And if you are going to cheap out on the disks why bother to add more cost to the part by cross drilling (which is marginally effective anyway). They are obvoiusly more interested in appreance than substance.
Does anyone offer a replacement for the stock disks that has corrected this directional venting issue? Brembo? ATE?
Thanks,
Juan Bruce
if i remember correctly..the mb rotors are internally vented, but not directional. so u can use a stock undrilled rotor on both sides. when amg came around...they only drilled one direction since it's rotor is the same. so it'll look backwards on one side (passenger side).
Zeppelin, funny you should mention warping on one side. That is exactly what happened and how I discovered this issue. The driver side is definitely warped while the pasenger side is slightly if not at all. Has anyone else experienced this?
MBE55AMG, do you know a Brembo rotor part number? I can't find it on their site?
Juan
