C55 Rear Mail Seal Leak (Use Blue Devil Sealant?)
So my 2006 C55 AMG has been dripping oil from the rear main seal for the past few months (Both dealer and another mechanic confirmed this). I was just about to suck it up and pay the 1,300 to replace the seal, then found out about Blue Devil Rear Main Sealer; It seems to get many positive reviews and doesn't appear to have any detrimental effects. Does anyone have experience using this in a Mercedes? As long as I know it won't hurt anything, I might as well try it... Thoughts?

Yes... about 45 days ago I put in about 1 and 1/2 bottles (Since they treat up to 6 qts each) and drove about 500 miles since then. Not only has the leak not changed at all, but now I am getting lifter knock. After some research I found that such additives can drastically change oil viscosity. Combined with the fact that the repair shop put 5w-30 in my AMG, I think it's way too thick now. Gonna have to change the oil again. As for the rear main sealer, I personally would not recommend. It may be effective if you catch the leak early enough but mine was probably too far gone. Don't fall for the "Guaranteed results" plastered on the bottle. Drips a good 2 inch puddle every long park.

Sorry to hear the product failed for you...You can either take it a good dealer or local indy shops......do the proper due diligence checking out the indys and good luck with the repair. Let us know how it went.........
