Type of Differential

Just today we test drove a C55. It is a very nice car; there were things we liked and some that did not attract us much. After we left the dealership, few questions came to mind and I could not find some of the answers at the mbusa.com.

One of them is the type of differential utilized on it. I'd appreciate if someone can enlighten me.

Thank you.

Yeah, I was also interested in that same info, but for the C32.

Thanks,

It uses an open differential and not a LSD.

Yeah, this is a sore point of mine....

...we get stuck with the same open diff in the CLK55, and it SUCKS. I find it inexplicable that Corvettes, Trans Ams, Camaros, Mustangs, etc., all of which cost a helluvalot less than a CLK55, come with limited slip diffs and decent-sized rear tires, yet Mercedes gives us an open diff with no limited slip option *and* sticks 245's on a car w/390 lb-ft of torque. Ridiculous. Still love the car, but Mercedes, pull your collective heads out and offer these high-torque monsters with a proper limited slip!!

Don't forget...even the Miata comes with Torsen LSD as an option.
