Softer ride help
My C55 is wonderful on a smooth road. It is very rough riding on the cracked up city streets i drive on a lot of the time. I would like it to ride a bit softer.
Has anyone replaced the shocks successfully for this purpose? What kind might fit/work? Will CLK or C sedan shocks fit/work? Springs? Other?
Yes, I know it's a sports sedan and that it handles great. Just looking for a bit more comfort for daily driving - this car will never see the track while I have it.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions that do not include "buy a Honda". lol

it isn't the springs...it is the struts. Replace the struts with new Bilstein B4, B6 (my preference) or new stock Sachs struts. My stock struts would crash/bang over imperfections (91K miles and OEM) which made the car a bit annoying for my wife as I had to apologize for the harsh risde. After swapping to the Bilstein B6 units, she doesn't complain at all. Now it is firm but compliant and feels sporty without being too harsh. I couldn't be happier with the strut swap utilizing the factory Eibach springs.

This was more or less answered in your thread about Konis wasn't it? I believe you stated your fronts were swapped with Bilstein B4's and you still have stock rear shocks. Trust all of us telling you the stock shocks ride terribly. Since you have B4's up front, I would go with either B4's in the rear or Sachs Sport shocks. If you keep your front B4's and go with B6's or B8's in the rear, your handling dynamics will change in ways that may be fun, but aren't conducive of a comfortable ride or make sense for a car that is a daily driver. I have B4's up front and went from B4 rears to Sachs Sport shocks in the rear and the car rides way better than it did with stock AMG shocks with either rear shock.
I don't know if the stock AMG Sachs shocks are still available, but if you're unhappy with your ride, I don't think buying the same shocks is going to help matters. Aftermarket Sachs Sport shocks for our cars are not the same as Sachs made stock AMG shocks.
