Custom CLK63 style bumper
One day I after months of trying to figure out how to do it and buying CF overlays for various cars from a C63 (too tall) to Subaru WRXs (too short), I lucked out and found an aftermarket W211 E63 bumper at Pick n Pull. At first I was just thinking 3d scan it, print the part and flip it on eBay, but since I couldn't find any MB part numbers, I determined it was indeed an aftermarket bumper. They are less than $600 and this one had two color layers of paint on it and LOTS of paint chips, so it wasn't that great. I took my dremel and cut the side gills out. From there, I grafted them into the stock bumper.
The E63 gills are a little smaller and more subtle than the CLK63. It wasn't the easiest job since the OEM plastic is hard to fuse together, but I eventually got the job done and smoothed out. Rattle can paint job and 2K clearcoat over the entire bumper. Keep in mind I'm not a body and paint guy and it's the first time I've done any of this. What do you all think?
Cut and stapled into place
After some sanding
Melted some plastic to better bond the parts and fill the gaps
Back side
More sanding
Some Bondo to smooth things out
Finished product
I used black caulking to fill the gap in the CF lip spoiler. It's also bolted in place.
