Nice run with a M coupe
Left work a little early yesterday and found the hwy traffic a bit thick so I jumped on a little road in Durham/Chapel Hill called stage coach road. It has a one lane bridge but once you get past that the run to the next road is about a mile and a half then a quick right that runs another 2+ miles. I explained the road b4 the story....As soon as I turned on first road I looked up in my rear view and this guy in a M coupe is velcro'ed to my bumper. I jumped on the gas a little and he was still there. Through a few twisties and wow he's still there. This is starting to **** me off a little. I jumped down on the throttle and he's toast. I slow down a bit and he catches up, we make a sharp 90 on to the next road and he gets a little side ways and a little smoke. We run up to about (the speed limit) then I have to pull on him just to "let him know" knows the man.
When we get to the stop light he pulls up and says "Nice car....I didn't know they were that fast" I told him thanks and said I was a bit slow today b/c I had a baby seat in the back... : )
I usually don't share these stories but what the hell. Merry Christmas 2 All!
BTW: I drove a new Vette yesterday - no big deal. I did however like the exhaust note.

It was a 2002. It was fast. It only weighs ~3100 lbs. and as you quoted 315 Hp.
That's a pretty good ratio. It also has a perfect distribution of weight. One of the fastest BMW's in it's stock form. I have seen where people have had Dinan mods installed like Free Flow Exhaust, Forged Pistons and had approx. 450 rwhp and 400 lb-ft of torque.

cliverman,
the M Coupe is a great car, but it is not that well balanced. The rear end is NOT the same as the M3 (could not fit it on that chasis) and is a major detriment to the handling of the M Coupe. The rear end is very twitchy and takes a lot of getting use to.
secondly, Dinan mods are junk and the only way to get any M Coupe to 450 hp (Crank or rear wheels) is with forced induction.
I have owned M Cars and build parts for them....just an FYI
