COMMAND Problems

I picked up a C55 in December. All things were great with the car. I was really happy with the difference between the new car and my 2002 C32.

January first my COMMAND unit would not power up, no Phone, no Audio, no Navigation, I assumed it was a fuse, but it wasn't, so off the car went to the dealer which wasn't all that bad since we got hit with a major snow and the loaner they gave me had 4-matic. I pick the car up a couple of days later and everything is in working order; my service rep tells me that they had to re-set the system and I shouldn't be concerned. Well, almost 24 hours later the same thing happens so I decide to take the car to a dealer closer to home that has serviced my previous cars. I came in to pick the car up tonight and guess what? COMMAND is down again!!!!

Has anyone had similar problems with COMMAND?

If so what was the diagnosis?

I'm not real happy to say the least. - Thanks

THX, I hope it's an isolated problem and not an epidemic!

well i don't have command, however a similar issue happens to me in my C55, sometimes everything will power up, but no audio will output, i have to access the CDC button, and have the system cycle a CD in the changer, to get audio to begin, then after that i can go back to radio and enjoy sound.

Fast Cars!
I have had my command screen turn black on a startup and all the sudden static BLASTS out the speakers at MAX volume and you cannont shut the command!!!!! I normally have to restart the car about 3 times for it to stop. Its VERY loud and scary, it has happened about 10 times, i need to bring it to the dealer for sure, its pretty embarrassing if anyone was never near my car and hear this, it can easily be heard 20 feet away with the doors and windows shut!!

It's good that doesn't happen while you're driving!!

I dropped my car off at the dealer again today I'll be looking for a full expanation of the problem if they can figure it out. If not I think it's time to have a very seerious discussion with the dealer who sold me the car. I'll be sure to post any valuable information on why this is happening. -mark

If the COMAND is faulty then there is no prospect of sound or other functions. I would be looking to install a different unit.

I remember hearing about a similar problem with the W211 E's when they first started coming in with NAV. Maybe cross post there??

Could be s/w problem but most dealers start with h/w swap fault isolation techniques.

Just got off the phone with my dealer. The tech ran diagnostics over and over with no success, no hard codes came up, no obvious electrical connections etc., so a new head unit is on it's way to be installed.

Apparently the problem I had "couldn't" be diagnosed. Also my dealer said that they've had similar problems with other systems but they were not limited to any specific year or car class. Now all I have to do is wait....

Rgds,
Norm
When you do a diagnostic evaluation of the head unit it will fully reset afterwards. This eliminates many of the soft errors.
