Swapping AMG wheels/tires for C280 sport wheels/tires - possible?

I am looking at a 1999 c43 and want a little less "bling" than the AMG wheels. Is it possible to swap them for the c280 "sport" wheel/tire combo (I think they are 16" vs. 17"). I know it will sacrifice handling but I am willing to make the trade. I had a problem when I did this a few years ago with my 540i because the brakes/rotors were too large for the smaller rims.

Can anyone confirm if this is possible?

I am also curious about 2000/01 E55 wheels as well - I am looking at 2 AMG's - a C and an E. I would like to swap them for e430 wheels if possible.

Thanks.

I think it might be possible. The C43 doesnt have massive Brembo calipers, they're slightly bigger ATE calipers. I have both those wheels and access to the cars. I will try to test fit it when I have time. If it does fit, I have 16" sport stock wheels that I'll trade you. I only used them for 10K miles. I'll let you know if it clears or not.

MikeL:

Thanks for the help and I have not purchased the car yet but am 90% sure the deal will happen - especially if I can do the wheel switch. I am also looking at a 2000 E55 but am leaning towards the C43.

You would make my day if the 16's work.

Another interesting outcome of that "study" would be if the 16's would work for winter tires. I had though about getting something to put on the car for the winter that got a little better wet weather traction and I wouldn't worry about getting salty so much. We don't ge tmuch snow here in Virginia, but it rains a lot in the winter and the salt trucks love to get the roads messy.

knvs was correct. (MikeL's assumption is NOT correct.)

I currently have both a 1999 C280 Sport with the original 16" wheels, and a 1999 C43 with the original 17" wheels. I tried the standard 16" Sport wheel, and even the spare 16" wheel. Neither are able to be bolted over the C43 front calipers.

The 16" Sport wheels do NOT fit the C43!
