this a good deal?

ok im new to mercedes and im not sure all the prices and what not, but i was looking at getting a 190e..then i decided i wanted something a bit newer. i started looking around for an e36 m3 found a few for around $10k, and today in my local paper a 97 C36 AMG was in there. price $9900. seems like its a deal, but is it a good buy? mileage i dont know or if its 5spd. and also would a 5 spd be hard to get a hold of to swap in?

I never shopped for a C36, but from what I can gather, that price seems a bit low. I am guessing high mileage and maybe not in pristine shape. As for the 5spd, I could be wrong, but I think ti would be nearly impossible to get a manual swapped in.

I believe the 1997's came with a 5 speed auto and is the last year, of course. Check the auto trader - I would guess for the price you mentioned that will be more than likely a high-mileage vehicle. Research the forums as well, that car suffers the same transmission woes the C43 has had throughout its short production run.

You might want to sneeze that loan up by a "G" or more....just to cover the "WTF..." stuff thats gonna happen after you take ownership.

right now i can sell my current car for like 5 or 6 grand, so i need a 10000 loan or the difference of what i sell my car for. 10000 is looking nicer because i can take a bit more time to get rid of my car.
