Shifter Bushing
Did some searching but the issue was not totally cleared up for me. I replaced the shifter bushing directly underneath the shifter. The bushing was a translucent white, akin to a donut with a grove and with a taper at the both ends.
My only trouble was getting the clip back on required compressing this donut, is this the case for those who have replaced these in the past? This clip is square abutting a round bushing - is this the correct bushing?

New one should be green - it's enroute. I had the vehicle up on the lift (to replace the steering dampener) and saw that there was only remnants of a blue bushing on the linkage for the gear selector.
Chances are C43AMG, if you've never changed it, I bet yours is bad too. The bushings are .83 and the dampener is $23 through autohaus.
