Red face Little problem filling up my tank..

This may seem like a stupid question to people, but I've been having trouble filling up my gas tank at several Chevron stations..

The story goes.. I do my usual thing, put the nozzle in, and start pumping away.. For some reason, after a few gallons, the automatic latch would click, stopping the gas flow.. This is really frustrating, as I can't get a decent measurement of my gas milage to say the least..

Maybe it's the new nozzle types at the gas stations around my area, maybe it's my own problem.. What's wrong here?

I am guessing the nozzle isn't creating the vacuum it needs to continue the filling, do people have to hold the nozzle in place or some special tricks you do??

I had the same problem on my old c43, but on my current one I dont. I never looked into the problem, but I would just hold down the nozzle. Try messing around with the angle you put the nozzle in, some times that helped.

I am having the very same problem right now. I recently had it in to the a dealer in CA, and they replaced two sending units (?) and for two or three fill ups it was fine. Now it's starting again. Same condition as you mentioned.

Between all of that now I have relocated to MI (don't even ask) and have an apporintment w/the local dealer the end of the week.

The service manager mentioned that this problem is happening with the new 221s, and they have specific things to look for. However, it seems that on 203s it is fairly isolated.

I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like you have a bad expansion tank. It is part of the filler neck, not hard to replace.

C43 fill up problems

I have 98 c43...always had same problem. If I park at pump with driveway that slopes slightly away...towards driver side...no problem filling up. Don't know why....guess its trapping air unless tilted????

i have the same problem on mine, as well as with every other car that i have owned. it has always been frustrating. question, though: does anyone know if this has some correlation with crappy fuel mileage? i get about 12 local, 22 hwy.
