Buying c36 or c43 (transmission issue)

hi everybody !

No idea if u have any russian users here, but this thread is written by one of them.
Ive been driving w210 3.2 for about 2 years now, and as, i suppose, every merc owner always wanted more power. Last week i sold my e-class, and now i am looking for a new car. Ive looked at several w202 and decided that it would be my next car. All i want to know is there a big differnce between 4.3 and 3.6 ? Especially in the transmission (4 and 5 speed ones). In my e class i had a huge problem with gearbox - the shifts would just jump from 3rd straight to 5th, so the 4th geat was simply absent. ive been told that the problem occured because of the type of the transmission (it was the old type, the car was 1997). And now i am pretty scared that i will get w202 with the same problems. could u please tell me what year i should be looking for, considering the issue with the gearbox, so i wouldnt have any problems again.

And is there a big difference between 4 and 5 gears ? I always thought that the more gears the better, but the question of reliability is more important to me. Ive heard that the 4 gear type was like bulletproof in c-class.
Here in moscow, it is pretty dificult to get a merc in a good condition. Especially such car as an AMG.

5 gears gets you better gas mileage. the 5speed in the C43 is rumored to have been programed too aggressively from the factory and wear out prematurely. I have never owned one so I can not speak from experience. Just make sure the tranny has been serviced regularly.

I've never heard the 1st statement - the tranny is adaptive - it "learns" the driver.Your 2nd statement is dead-on.Please have the tranny "flushed" and not "serviced".
