C43 Estate Advice Needed If Possible
I am from Scotland and need a little advice if possible.
Thanks in advance.
I currently own a c200 estate sport year 2000 model with tip/auto tranny and have done so for the past 5 years,it's mechanically bullit proof and slow lol however I have driven last month to the south of italy and back without a glitch, but have had terrible rust problems with the car.
However 2 years ago I was going to buy a lovely C43 estate 2000 model with a tip/auto tranny @ 60000 miles but 3 days before I picked the car up I changed my mind basically because my wife was going to be driving it mainly and she had only held her licence for 3 months and was not very experienced and so i kind of panicked and pulled out of the purchase which now I feel was the worst thing I ever did;-(
I allways dreamed of getting another c43 and only now has one came up for sale 400 miles from home,I believe to be only 20 estates in the uk, it is a 1998 model estate in a dark metalic blue and is a one owner from new, I really like the car from photos from a garage in england but it has covered 99000 miles!do you think an amg engine is still good and last much longer before the bills start to roll in? I am getting a fair trade against my c200 @ 81000 miles and only need £3500 to change.
Should I buy the car or walk away?
thanks in advance
stephen
IMHO, Provided that the car has a full Mercedes Dealer Service History and its condition is in line with the price, I would not get too concerned about the mileage - I bought my 2000 C43 with 114K of motorway miles a few months ago and its been sound. The Dealer history is important because it will ensure that the 30-yr rot warranty is honoured - important because W202 AMGs do rot in the usual places. Do look at a couple before you buy - that way you should be able to spot a lemon from a minter.
Regards,
Mike
I have seen the car you are talkin about and I would be a little worried.
There is no C43 badge and the AMG badge has been moved.
Now either the previous owner decided to do this due to his personal taste or it has been in a rear end shunt.
The fact that the owner has stated twice that he has had a HPI check would get me worried too. (maybe he is hiding something)
He may be genuine but I am over cautious at times.
Good luck mate.
)In terms of electrics you can get some glitches - MAF sensor, crank sensor, the odd relay going pop. At over 100k miles you might get these fail second time round as a number of mine popped between 50k and 60k.
As far as the oliy bits go, the engine, box, diff and wheel bearings should go on and on and on AS LONG AS THE OWNERS HAS REGULARLY CHANGED THE FLUIDS. The box is supposedly sealed for life but I recommend changing the fluid at 5 years/50k miles. Front bearings can fail if not regreased at 50k (mine did). Lower ball joints don't last long on tough roads - 30-50k. Fine on motorways.
I would look to see if the exhaust and/or cats have been changed at some ppoint - expensive to replace
Rust; yes make sure it had full MB history - some people have had bad experiences with C's and E's of this age.
