C36 Reliability and Dependability
Hello!
I just joined the forums and wanted to get you opinions on the c36. I've done research and really like the style and engine layout (inline6). I wanted to know before shopping around what
issues will come up with an older model c36. I'm talking 95/96 with 70,000+ on the odometer. I like working on my cars so I'm also wondering how difficult is it to work on the engine and other parts of the car.
I've never owned a Mercedes and the last European car I had was a 1991 Audi which was a piece of junk.
I would appreciate any and all information you can provide.
Thanks in advance..

1998 C43
MB's are awesome!! I kinda tinker with mine, but no serious fixings. Keep in mind that parts will cost $$$$$ and if you mess something up, the repair will cost $$$$. My family has own three MB, and I have owned two. They're great cars, but you gotta be ready / able to pay for it if needed.
Good luck, the C36 is an awesome car. I got my C43 with 66xxx miles on it, and seems fine, so far!
Just maintian it really well, and have it checked out, or something like that.

1997 C36 AMG
Binster
all C36 and C280 (inline six)and has M104 base engine
all these car basically suffer from premature head-gasket failure..
Starting on late 96 MB revised the design on the new head gasket.
although I still hear that some 97 still have some headgasket leak..
just make sure that the car never run overheat...
I my self have a 97 C36 with 65xxx on the odometer.
I have own it for 2 years and It never gave me any problem , just the belt tensioner was replace about 1 years ago due to some noise it makes when the car is stopped and the gear is in D...
Other than that nothing (knock on wood:p )
Hope this helps.
