windshield replacement

well, it was bound to happen. i was driving back from vegas yesterday, and wouldnt you know it? a semi truck kicked up a golfball-sized rock and it slammed into my windshield. left a gnarly inpact mark, and needless to say, cracked my windshield.

anyone know of a reputable glass company out in the LA area? ive had my windshield replaced on my honda before, years ago. never on the benz. anything i should worry about???

Had to replace my Windshield this summer. Small crack but wouldn't pass state inspection. MB Stealership told me $450 for the windshield, ended up going to a chain around here called Glassmasters, $225 installed. I would check out some of those chain type glass places in your area, the guys were very respectful of my car, professional in their work efforts, and even made sure I was taken care of on price.

The glass on my car was replaced by the previous owner. Sucks that it's not an original MB part only because it doesn't have that sticker on it. But, it's a good $250+ savings over the original.

When I lived in the LA area, there was a company called SafeLite autoglass that came out to my house and changed the windshield on my Infiniti. They were about $230. There are a lot in LA though. Go with a larger company that includes warranties.

Isn't there a "treatment" or "film" that can be applied to the windshield that offers protection against rocks, chips etc? I can't remember the products name but I thought that you can buy it when the new windshield is installed and its supposed to offer some kind of guarantee against breakage. If your keeping the car , I would look into it.

thanks for the input, guys.

i have a $250 deductible, so was considering just going to the dealership. but according to geico, they will only pay out a certain rate as decided by the "national auto glass assoc" or something like that. basically, dealers will subcontract the glass work out (of course), and charge a higher fee (also, of course), which the insurance company will NOT pay for. just an FYI.

lensolo ... ive used safelite on the old honda with good results also, so ill prob go with them. plus, they can just come out to my office so that i dont have to stop billing .

I had the same thing happen to my '01 C240 last July. Dealer wanted $820. I called around and got quotes ranging down from $509 to $329. As this was a leased vehicle with only five months to go, I decided to go with the cheapest. I was NOT disappointed. In fact they used OEM glass (Pilkington). This included the rain sensor as well. Guy came to my work, took about three-four hours as there's a lot of stuff to remove. But. he did an excellent job and excpet for not having the white Daimler sticker in the lower right, you could not tell this from factory.
Master Glass. 800 922-0100.
By the way, I'm in Orange County and I think they go to LA as well.

Just FYI, I was told glass purchases from MB dealerships will not have the Daimler-Chrysler sticker on it.. Can't remember why, but that's just the way it is. Why, I would not know, but then again, when have we ever known what stealerships think??

If you're really, really, really into that sticker, it does have a P/N on it BTW.

also, spark plugs ... $675! wow. im gonna do that one myself also.

Holy crap what a rip-off Maximus...feel free to shoot me an IM. I'll give you my phone number for any questions you may have. It's a really easy job BTW. It'll cost you half, even with the cryo treatment.

will do. i have changed brakes and plugs before on hondas and on race cars for a little while, but never on a benz. especially one owned by me! i plan to address the brakes and plugs this summer some time. im not experiencing any problems, i think the dealer was taking preventative maintenance a bit too far this time ...

Like I called for the brake job? Like you said we can try the SRS reset tool? Like you answered the PM's And emails?

Even we live 15 miles apart?
