I just bought a nice head unit and wanted to hook it up. Unfortunately I'm finding out too late it might be a whole lot of wiring. Anybody have any luck with just replacing the Head Unit? I don't want to have to replace everything. Thanks.
Here is the head unit:

Going to have to bump my own post here. Evidently not much is known about MB stereo setups. Crutchfield told me one thing, Best Buy (had to ask) another, 3rd party show another. Finally went to a friend and did some research on club202.com.
Turns out this adapter will work. At least with the 98 setup I have. It isn't totally necessary though. You just need a VW harness and swap 2 wires. Other than that they are the same and work just fine. I have the JVC in and it is rocking.
Only drawback is the amp. It does run out of room quick due to it not being balanced perfect. That is where the PAC OEM comes in. I didn't actually use it, but could to balance out the output into the amp. I don't really need to, but do have a bit of a short volume. Nothing terrible, but it could be improved.
So here is a post for those of you looking to upgrade head units in a 98.

looks good, i might do it on my E, all i know is that once you mess with a mercedes wiring harness, your opeing a can of worms. I was at my sealership once and they had to re wireit because the people who installed it dont know wtf they were doing.
