Duuhhh, my bad. Forgot about 55 in your car.

Well, than the gains should be even bigger!!!!

Coat them only if you care about their appearance, after several thousand miles they will turn into "rainbow".

Have fun!!!

God! I miss playing with cars................

The coating people like new clean parts. So they do not have to deal with exhaust contaminates. Which are real difficult to get off the insides of the header tubes.
Would Swain coating work just as well?

Carl,

I have those headers and I had Swain coat them with thier header coating. It made a tremendous difference in header temps, much lower temps transmitted to the engine bay.

They are difficult to fit. Also I would take a carbide tip grinder or stone to smooth out the inside where you will find some rough welds.

I also got my hands on some METAL CATS to run. But before the cats check into putting an "X" pipe in place to help scavange the exhaust flow.

To get the ECU to work properly you will need to extend the rear pair of O2 sensors and weld in two fittings for them.

I don't know how well they work with the 5.5L motor but they worked very well on my C43 which pulled as hard as a 5.5L motor for the last 1000 rpm or so.

Jeff I actually have a Y-pipe after the secondary high flow cats in my setup that ends up with the exhaust being 3" single all the way back to the muffler. Is the X-pipe still necessary in addition to the Y-pipe? Or are you saying use an X pipe in place of the cats or use an x-pipe in front of the cats in addition to my y-pipe which is in back of the cats for an even greater enhancement in performance?

I figured the Y-pipe was basically doing the same thing which i have installed right there after the cats. I have noticed a lovely perfromance increase pre-headers install. I'll PM you!

I have the same question.... Since I removed my secondary cats should I replace it with an X pipe????

Now Patrick is this without the cams on the final dyno shown here? Nice #'s if that's the case!

Yes I believe Jeff is saying to replace the cats with an X-pipe! then you can go dual(2.5") all the way back to two mufflers, or connect a Y-pipe after the x-pipe and go 3" or 3.5" back to a single big muffler like a Borla!

Carls post is right. If you still have the primary cats. Then put a "X" pipe where the 2ndary cats were a few feet later you can remerge the two pipes back together and then use a 3.5" diameter pipe if you can or a 3" diameter pipe.

I agree and interesting to get things back into perspective with time
Would also recommend coating with this product http://www.zircotec.com/ which is probably the best solution around (not cheap) but it really works

I have been looking into the Kleeman headers as well and I believe the price has come down a bit. My local kleeman dealer quoted me $1,400 (+$600 if I want them installed )

Custom fab?

Maybe a dumb question but has anyone looked into getting custom made headers? I know a lot of old school hot-rodders use em for custom projects. and for $1500-2200 couldn't hurt to check.
