C43 mileage question
Hi all
Is 130K miles on the C43 ok in terms of issues or is it an age when certain issues start to raise their head. I now know a great deal about the gearbox issue and what to look out for, however I wanted to know how good the engines and other parts (suspension etc.) are at that sort of mileage.
Understand that it is always good to have some money behind the wheel for immediate servicing and repairs, but would be grateful for a heads up if I need to be aware of any really major issues like engine work etc.
As always, grateful for any wisdom that you can share!
Best
Nath

Very interesting point. The early AMG models (C36,C43) are starting to crack the 100k mile mark and heading into unchartered waters. Here is where I believe we'll start to see the quality in these engines.Since most of these cars at least had the oil changed and maintained with synthetic lubricants. It's not unreasonable to ask almost any engine for 100k when maintained with a synthetic lubricant, now throw in the handbuilt quality with top of the line internals and how long do you think you can get........250k?After having been to the factory and witnessed the hand building of these engines you have to be impressed with what you got under the hood, even now after 10 yrs.

I recently purchased my C43 a few months ago now, and pretty much got a deal I couldn't refuse. Original Owners since new, maintained, and pretty clean.
I bought it with the intension of using it for Autocross and Track Days.
The mileage when I bought it had 147k, since then I've already put over 5k miles on it.
Upon purchasing it, knowing what I was planning to use it for, I did a lot of preventitive maintence.
The one major thing that I did do, was replace the timing chain. I was hearing a rattling noise from the front of the engine, which sounded like chain slap. That noise is now gone.
Other than that, I rebuilt the entire front suspension, replaced springs, shocks, sway bars, spark plugs/wire and changed all the fluids.
So far, I've done 2 track days at Lime Rock, 2 track days at Watkins Glen, and about 10 or so Autocrosses.
The car has been flawless so far even with this amount of mileage. That's a great example of what these cars can take even with high mileage!

2000 C43 Wagon
Nath,
My 2000 C43 now has 127k (daily drive!) on it and has been looked after by MB all its life - it has had no problems and regularly returns 25+ MPG. As you will see from other posts, provided that the car has been maintained by someone who knows what they are doing and uses quality parts, the car should go on...and on! Known age/mileage related clapping points are: Air Mass Sensors (~£200 for parts), front suspension balljoints (~£200) and steering dampers (~30). Front Brake discs are expensive (£170 ish each and ~£100 for pads due to AMG Tax!) so these would be worth checking - rears are much cheaper.
