This only happened to me 2 or 3 times in 3 years of owning this C43.
I fill the tank, it looks empty. I turn off and start the engine, and it looks full.
Yesterday was different: It looked like there was a 1/4 tank full. Engine terribly hesitated. I stopped at the gas station, put $10 gas, and it turned out to be empty tank.
I experienced the "fill the tank, and it looks empty" before, but this is the first time, that it looked like there was 1/4 of gas but tank was actualy empty. Can we fabricate tool to stick in the tank to fiddle some things? Or you guys have better idea or solutions to this annoying small problem?
Thank you so much

my gas tank sensor has been replaced at least twice and it has less than 30k miles

My 98 C43 with 40K miles suffers from this as well as the intermittent "I don't want to start" problem".
Some days the fuel gauge works great, I filled up this morning (did not "top off"), this afternoon it shows an empty tank?
I try to just go off the odometer, I've heard that replacement of one of the sensors requires removal of the gas tank and about $800 in labor...
WTF, very frustrating! the car is such a pleasure to drive otherwise- "Engineered, to drive you crazy, like no other"...

yeah thats pretty scary. my friend has an audi a4 2.8 b5 and it does the same thing with the gas guage, very tricky. It started happening to him after he drove his car home from getting new tires put on. I hope my next c43 wont come with these issues! (flying to new york wednesday to drive it down to Ga)
