Roughness

Ahhhh.....so I think next time I have my car parked for more than a week I will have someone drive it occaisonally for me. Hopped back into the C43 this morning to head for work, and I had about the roughest start ever......really loud slow ticking from the motor, almost sounded like some old carbureted chevy small block on a cold start. Let it idle for a minute and it slowly started to subside, though not quickly at all. Turned it off, fired back up and it was better. Repeated and then the ticking was only apparent from about 1300-2000 rpm. Sat there for a good 30 sec holding at about 2k rpm, letting it drop down to 15 and up to 25 slowly. After about 4 minutes total, it was all back to normal and about halfway to normal temp for the motor. I'm guessing the issue was just that all the oil had seeped down from the top end of the motor and all that stuff (valves, etc) were relatively dry, and took some running up to get lubed. Is this a correct assessment, or do you think there is something else going on as well? Car has 99k miles on it, and was sitting for 11 days in a warm garage for reference....

Rough Starting

Had something similar on the DogWagen last Apr after it had been sat for a month outside - ran like a bag of spanners until warm and then was sweet. Problem diagnosed by a Bosch Tech as the MAF. Seeing as it had done 130K miles, it didn't come as too much of a surprise. The car is now in dehumidified storage until I return to the UK next year.

No AMG = No Fun

If you don't drive the car as much you may want to switch to a lighter weight oil that moves much more quickly, like a 0w-40 Mobile1.

further more you probably have old gas and just needs to be cleaned out. put a can of seafoam in the gas tank that should help prevent it.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm actually running 0-40 Mobil right now, but the fuel could definitely have degraded a little. I generally try and fill when I get to half a tank, so in theory my fuel only cycles out every 2 weeks or so (since I burn about a half tank a week). Hopefully it doesn't do it anymore....generally it has only happened in the past if I leave it sitting for more than a couple days, and even then it is only for about 2 or 3 seconds after first firing. This one just seemed to take a lot more effort to clear, though that would make sense if things had coagulated in the crank case.
