yeah...still...the list for c43 was a couple hundred cheaper than list for a c36...whatever the cost in massaging amg took in the 2.8L inline6 was just about as much as a "slightly" tweaked 4.3L v8, and nothing beats displacement right

Something must be wrong with me, I just enjoy driving my C43 around, mashing the gas and stomping on the brakes- and I don't sweat which car these parts were sourced from.

Whatever the origin, can we agree that the sum of the parts in this car is a winning combination?

Hmm, well if you enjoy driving it around, and don't enjoy the forum, why don't you leave it at that?

Actually, maybe you'll appreciate it someday when you order brake pads and get the WRONG ONES because application guides are often wrong... then you can remember to tell the supplier that ones for an E55 will work just fine. Or I guess you'd rather just go to the dealer for a $2000 brake job!

Porterfield's application guide has been corrected because I told them.

Even if you and moedigga haven't been actually using the forum enough to see it, there is benefit to this kind of discussion and information sharing. Steve s posts often and has a lot of good information, and I look at it as if we're comparing notes.

-s-

(PS: actually I think the C43 is an underperformer. Drive a CLK55 and see what I mean. On paper the C43 should far exceed what it is actually capable of.)

u can say that again...just because it's mb or something, their labor is extra expensive. (guess it's the same with well-known mb aftermarket companies) hehe....

yeah...i'm surprised something at 300hp and 2 extra cylinders doesn't provide more of an edge over the c36's 268 or 276 horses...even when they're nearly identical in weight.... i wonder if it's really just tuned so much so to run the autobahn, that u won't notice that much diff until u get into triple digits..or do u?

Ok fellas,
I'll try really hard to earn my right to post to the forum. Sorry to have commented on your exchange. I do enjoy the technical discussions about various parts and configurations, but as an observer the brake discussion got too tedious for me. I should have had more patience, but I wanted to know the answer real bad, and now I still don't know what car the brakes are from!

I guess me and my lowly 43 will just have to sit out for a few rounds. I'm not even gonna drive it for a while.

Don't get me wrong... I would rather have you voice your opinion and participate than say nothing at all. But when you say something, then people have the opportunity to disagree with you.

Is the 5.5 a tuned 4.3L? Could I bore my engine out to 5.5L?

i'm sure someone like renntech or brabus has bored out v8 engines. another route would be to supercharge it...think kleemann may have some...

It seems the closer you get to east cost the cheaper the overall prices r. If u can save several k on it, then it might be worth to travel. I know i would. Road trip!!

so what if we have C-class and all. You can go show off your SL500 to some other people. Who knows if you bought the car used. A used 99 SL500 sport is only around $45-50k.

btw, catch me IF you can or talk to me when you can afford a REAL AMG like the SL55.

The SL ***** that hates is a salesperson based on his profile, so he is used to screwing people over all day for his $$$. I don't drive the latest edition Benz either, but you know what? The new SL puts shame on the old cars game!

I learn more from Master Scorchie! Thanks.
I am sad now from >the engine was not built at AMG in Affalterbach.< but at least I know. I wondered why I didn't see the plate with the builder's siggy.
I agree that the car looks better on paper than in real life, but mine is a stocker and I still can hardly hold on
So I am happy just the same.

the engine was not built at AMG in Affalterbach.

However, if you really look at the engines and compare them with a stock 4.3l M113 (I have both engines in cars I own), and go through the part numbers... you can see the real differences.

1) Intake cams
2) Exhaust system
3) Intake AIRBOX ONLY (_not_ intake manifold, it is STOCK)
4) Computer programming

That's it. Yes, I do this research before writing about it. I also own a C43, so I have tried to learn a lot about it.

If they did more, it sure wasn't worth it for a measly 27 horsepower.

does a 98 have these????

Power tilt/sliding tinted glass sunroof with slotted manual sunshade.

Dual heated power mirrors.

Auto-dimming left-side mirror.

Integrated 3-button garage door control, compatible with HomeLink® components.

All four windows with one-touch express-up/down

Parcel net in right front footwell

Some one with a 98 C43 please confirm these STD options found on a 99 C43.

I have everything on my 98 except for the passenger foot net.

If I were you, I would go with the car that has the least miles. Also, check out the car, make sure the tranny isnt about to go. Try driving the car cold, if the tranny is going bad you will find slipping in the gears as you accelerate. You would also want a car with the Xenon lights. Although it is easy to upgrade if you dont get them. I would be more concerned about the engine and the tranny.

Good luck,

DLS

PS Feel free to email me with q's you might still have.
