Differences btwn a 1998 and 1999 C43
you wrote that the C36 had rear brakes from an E430...
my bad, typo
If they did more, it sure wasn't worth it for a measly 27 horsepower.

Something must be wrong with me, I just enjoy driving my C43 around, mashing the gas and stomping on the brakes- and I don't sweat which car these parts were sourced from.
Whatever the origin, can we agree that the sum of the parts in this car is a winning combination?

Actually, maybe you'll appreciate it someday when you order brake pads and get the WRONG ONES because application guides are often wrong... then you can remember to tell the supplier that ones for an E55 will work just fine. Or I guess you'd rather just go to the dealer for a $2000 brake job!
Porterfield's application guide has been corrected because I told them.
Even if you and moedigga haven't been actually using the forum enough to see it, there is benefit to this kind of discussion and information sharing. Steve s posts often and has a lot of good information, and I look at it as if we're comparing notes.

(PS: actually I think the C43 is an underperformer. Drive a CLK55 and see what I mean. On paper the C43 should far exceed what it is actually capable of.)

yeah...i'm surprised something at 300hp and 2 extra cylinders doesn't provide more of an edge over the c36's 268 or 276 horses...even when they're nearly identical in weight.... i wonder if it's really just tuned so much so to run the autobahn, that u won't notice that much diff until u get into triple digits..or do u?
I'll try really hard to earn my right to post to the forum. Sorry to have commented on your exchange. I do enjoy the technical discussions about various parts and configurations, but as an observer the brake discussion got too tedious for me. I should have had more patience, but I wanted to know the answer real bad, and now I still don't know what car the brakes are from!
I guess me and my lowly 43 will just have to sit out for a few rounds. I'm not even gonna drive it for a while.

Yes DumbDigga, I am GOD as far as you are concerned...
If I wanted Speed I'd get a 40k brand new Vette and smoke your a** So Please, think before you speak... Talk to me when you can afford a SL...
btw, catch me IF you can or talk to me when you can afford a REAL AMG like the SL55.
thats the thing, I'm not going to buy a car on the east coast when im on the west coast with out inspecting it. I will go to all of CA, NV, OR, AZ.

The SL ***** that hates is a salesperson based on his profile, so he is used to screwing people over all day for his $$$. I don't drive the latest edition Benz either, but you know what? The new SL puts shame on the old cars game!
I am sad now from >the engine was not built at AMG in Affalterbach.< but at least I know. I wondered why I didn't see the plate with the builder's siggy.
I agree that the car looks better on paper than in real life, but mine is a stocker and I still can hardly hold on
So I am happy just the same.
The C43 has front brakes from an E50.
The rear brakes on a C43 are from a W210.
the engine was not built at AMG in Affalterbach.
However, if you really look at the engines and compare them with a stock 4.3l M113 (I have both engines in cars I own), and go through the part numbers... you can see the real differences.
1) Intake cams
2) Exhaust system
3) Intake AIRBOX ONLY (_not_ intake manifold, it is STOCK)
4) Computer programming
That's it. Yes, I do this research before writing about it. I also own a C43, so I have tried to learn a lot about it.
If they did more, it sure wasn't worth it for a measly 27 horsepower.

If I were you, I would go with the car that has the least miles. Also, check out the car, make sure the tranny isnt about to go. Try driving the car cold, if the tranny is going bad you will find slipping in the gears as you accelerate. You would also want a car with the Xenon lights. Although it is easy to upgrade if you dont get them. I would be more concerned about the engine and the tranny.
Good luck,
DLS
PS Feel free to email me with q's you might still have.
