Using New MB Tech, Full of BS?

I bought my '99 C43 over a year ago and got a ton of great advice on here. Thanks to everyone. The car has been great and relatively trouble free. I had MB dealer do a pre-buy inspection and the car had very minor issues. Months later went to very well known MB tech in the DC area for a service. They fixed what was wrong (A/C issue, new ball joints and oil leak) and suggested new fuel filter, brake flush and valve covers in the near future.

To make a long story short, I tried a new MB tech in the area and he came back with the following issues:

needs BG fuel system service
Rear seal leak (could cause a fire they told me) needs to be replaced
control arm bushings
steering shock leak
power steering leak
A/C leak
some sort of insulation over the transmission had fallen and could cause a fire on the exhaust? Said it could can be repaired when the tranny is out for the rear seal.

Basically $3500 to make it all better. Seems a little bizarre that the car developed all of these problems in the last 5 months or that one the best independent MB techs in the area neglected to notice them at all. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone has a happy holiday.

If you had used one of the best in the area in your opinion, then why try a new tech ?

Sometimes a good tech evaluates cost of repair and necessity of repair at the current time.

If the tranny is out then do any repairs that would require it to be removed...the labor is in the removal and installation.

The other items may or not need immediate attention and can be done as they reach a point where they are noticeable or begin to effect performance.
