22 X3, 21 330e, 97 M3, 97 C36 (sold), but on the hunt for a clean, low-mile C43!
So after reading this entire thread (and others), I still haven't found the info I'm looking for:
  • Where's the cheapest place to get Bilstein sport shocks? Tirerack has them for $88 a piece, whereas Ebay's cheapest find was $100 a piece of $400/set. Anybody find them for less?
  • And is it true that all C36/43s come stock with Bilstein HD shocks?
  • Are H&R springs available for 97 C36s? if so, where's the cheapest to buy from?

1.) I searched high and low and tirerack.com was the cheapest I found them.
2.) I believe the 36/43's did come with the bilstein HD's.
3.) not sure about the H&R's as I went with the Vogtlands which are available for the C36 (Vogtland-NA.com)

FWIW, i have nothing but good experiences with H&R's on a lot of other cars i have owned, which is why i went that route with the 36......it was basically between the 3 that we are talking about now; H&R, Eibach and Vogtland.
What kind of H&Rs did you get for your 97 C36? I just called H&R, and they confirmed that they don't offer springs for the 97 C36, only 95-96 as there was some type of suspension change for the 97 model year.

Sports are for lowered vehicles, they have a shorter travel to accomodate for the shorter springs. I am pretty sure they came stock with HD's

1995 C 36 AMG; 1992 W124 300E (M103 Ex Mosselman TT KIT) was 320hp @10psi now stock :(
stocks are special AMG valved shocks they are much stiffer than the billies but billies will be ok on the car as u cant pay the 2500 usd asking price of AMG.
Diff in springs between 95 and 97 is that the top of the 95 spring is flat where as the newer is not so all u need is the right rubber pad and ur fine with any on the car.

Will the stock spring pad (whichever # it is) work?

well it depends, if u have a 95 car and get springs for a 95 well sure they will be fine. and same if u have a 97 and get springs for a 97. but if u have a 97 car and get 95 springs you will need the older pads to have springs seat properly.

sounds like the same sort of dilemma we had with the E36's.. OBDI's (95's) having different spring hats/pads than OBDII's. (96-99)

I found some partsnumbers for Vogtland tiefer federn (springs)

Parts number listed for C43 is 952079
Parts number for w208 CLK 6 cylinder cars is 952014
Parts number for w209 CLK 8 cylinder cars is 952073, does these springs fit w202, or are they for McPherson?

springs for w202 handles front 970kg and rears handles 1150kg
springs for w208 handles front 1010kg and rears handles 1070kg

springs for w209 front/rears handles more than both above, but I guess these springs don't fit our cars?

So the question is since 952014 springs for w208 clk 6 cylinder cars handles more weight are these more suitable for c43 instead of using #952079 springs?

I would imagine if the springs worked well on either car they wouldn't of bothered making different springs for W202 and the W208...

if asking vogtland America for specific information regarding w208 CLK springs.
they should be able to tell if w208 springs are better or not for c43?
They are sturdier up front but weaker on rear springs.
Since C43 is more noze heavy upfront, then which kit to buy?

I did some research:

springs for C43:
front handles each 970 kg
rears handles 1150kg
total weight is 4240kg

springs for w208 CLK430
upfront handles each 1010kg
rears handles each 1070kg
total weight is 4160kg

weight difference is 80kg between both kits in favor to (C43) 952079 spring kit
w208 kit is 80kg weaker than C43 kit

talked to a buddy of mine whom deals with MB tuning parts yesterday.
I asked for Brabus lowering springs for my C43.
Sadly they are not available anymore for w202.

I asked him about aftermarket springs?
I was told that H&R is complete rubbish for MB and not to buy this kit.
So I'm back to square nil, I emailed a few companies in Germany for lowering springs, there are no kits from Eibach or Vogtland available.
I guess I'm stuck with factory euro springs for a long time.

Daem, why is life so difficult finding shorter springs for my car?

Old thread, I know, but did you ever receive more info on this?

Edit: I see there isn't one "specifically made" for our C43s, but which of the two would be best?

I came back to check on the forum and found this thread - For what its worth here "was" my stance and such.
I wish I had put on 215/40/18s The fronts tire looked meatier than the fronts OR kept the 225s and went
265 in the rear.

Nonetheless I had a an amazing amazing amazingly comfortable and ride. Handled every bump and twist
Better than my W211 with Airmatic lowered through STAR - my wife concurs =)

Eibach Pro Kit 4 Corners
Bilstein Sports 4 Corners
Front Pad #2
Rear Pad #4
W210 Monoblocks
Front 18x8 ET31 225/40/18
Rear 18x9 ET35 255/35/18

you should get springs made for c43, they will work great.
partsnumber is Vogtland #952079
you can find them on Ebay

euro c43's are heavier than US version c43's as we have more extra options which your cars is missing.
my car is a bit heavier as I also have the power rear blind in the back and some other stuff.

Vogtland #952079 springs are not approved for euro c43's.
I bought them anyway and i'm surprised these springs do work great on my car with Koni adjustables.
I have #1 pad front and #4 pad rear with all 4 18" ET35 rims
