Selector Lever Position Backlight Bulb Replacement?

Noticed my shifter lever selection backlight is nonexistant when my dash is illuminated, I popped off the trim ring around the shifter housing and lifted the burl wood plate off. I cannot figure out how the heck I am supposed to get inside the shifter housing in order to replace the bulb for the backlighting. Any insight would be super appreciated...it's annoying the heck out of me.

Here is an illustration to clear up any misunderstandings:

It looks as if I remove part #10 I can gain access to the bulb inside? But how!

I think the bulb holder slips into the forward left corner of the housing. Look for a harness in that location and pull forward.

Vince, upon closer inspection you were absolutley correct. I was out there at night trying to figure it out before, however, it is hidden quite well! I took a few photos to help aid anyone that has this issue in the future.

NOTE: This should be similar for all W202's, this particular writeup is what I encountered on my 1995 C36 W202.

Start by removing the trim ring, pry it up carefully and evenly to avoid breaking off the tabs, also note the orientation for reassembly.

Remove the wooden trim also by prying it straight up, be gentle.

Remove the change compartment, this slides straight up and out.

My finger is pointing to the location of the bulb holder. It is hidden behind the shifter housing (upper left hand corner) If you feel around you should be able to locate it. This should pull right out, no clips to worry about.

Now you have the bulb and holder out....

Lightbulb should just pull right out of the holder.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

I was curious to know which bulb fits here? 1.2W 1.5W or 2W?

Thanks in advance.

Mine was a 1.2 watt.

A 1.5 watt bult should also work fine, just be a bit brighter.
