Nope..plug n' play.About 365-370.I believe the ECU must be re-programmed to recognize the 5.5 motor.

is our regular 722.631 transmission for our C43's going to hold strong for an E55 engine for long time?
The tourqe is way better on the E55 engine!
More stress will wear out the original C43 transmission?
Is changing oil on the transmission going to protect our weak transmission by the increased tourqe from an E55 engine?
Or are you guys going to expect a trans failure soonah or lejtah no matter what if you change oil when you do trans service?

Yes , it was used for the SL600 also.

No problem , see answer above.

Like anything else , proper maintenance will always prolong any mechanical device.Depending upon your driving habits, every 30-35k is probably the interval I would recommend. If you are tracking the car I would do it more frequently.

Interesting question. As these cars age and change owners, the past maintenance schedules will provide a clearer picture as to what to expect from vehicle. For example , you purchase your car at say 75k,without knowing what was done or what should have been done will change your attitude on ownership of our cars.If the previous owner ( original, #2 ,#3, etc) just wanted to "drive it" for a couple of years and unload it you could be facing alot of upcoming maintenance issues. Some of the things could be - mass air sensor , O2 sensors could be due , harmonic balancer replacement (factory recall) , ball joints , brakes (rotors) , fuel guage sensors ( all 202's have this problem ) CPS - crank position sensor , valve cover leakage. As you can see depending upon the previous owner, you can face quite a lengthy list of maintenance issues depending upon the the previous owners dedication to maintenance. Now , after the rant , back to your last question. It's (the tranny ) probably going to go sooner or later, but there are guys I know (ProjectC55) who drive their car without a second thought about the tranny.now mind you , he has told me that he's changing the fluid every 5-10k in his car. That should tell you 2 things - how he drives his car and how he maintains it.If you want to know if its worth a re-build before it goes-it depends on you and how long you are going to hold on to it.The first thing I would do is get it flushed. You are gonna hear alot of pro's and con's about "flushing" vs. "changing" and that argument is for another time.If it was my car , I would hang around (I did, and wil always) and see what comes out of the fluid swap.I had mine done at 53k when I acquired the car and my mechanic and myself were shocked to see the color ( dark coffee colored) of the tranny oil.I know have 75k on the car and have changed it 4 more times and the fluid is clear but each filter I have cut open shows small metal flakes in it.This maybe the needle bearings going or could be normal wear and tear.I will eventually have it re-built before it goes because I don't drive it every day and I am not getting rid of it.Hopefully this helps and lets us know how you make out !

Hey C43AMG from New Jersey!
Thanks for your explanation in your reply above!
I also leave my caaah to a trusted mekanik to change the oil and filter/gasket on my transmission!
I do it at about 20- 30,000miles or every 3 years, depending on my mileage!
I don't think my mechanic ever flushed the transmision?
He just drained it and put new oil in it and new filter/gasket!
I also told him to put in the new magnet that came out a few years ago!

This SL600 transmission is prone to **** up?
This is due to weak bearings in the transmission?
If MB knew this how come they manufacture such a weak transmission for their high tourqed cars?
Is the E55 transmission better and stronger than C43 transmission?
Does E55 trans have stronger and more durable parts inside the trans than 722.631 C43 AMG transmission?
Then when my starts to mess up I will buy a E55 transmission!
Lucky for me it's still intact and shifts great!

Tell me about the flushing, you put a hose and flush it with fresh water the entire transmission house?
I don't think this service is offered at the stealership?
I leave my caah to a trusted mekanik whom used to work for the stealership, but he didn't like their company attitude so he quit and works now for another smaller independent garage!
Cheaper rates and high quality work!
This is what we need a trusted mechanic with human rates!
It's hard to find these trusted friendly people!
Thanks
Happy motoring
