98 c43: ESP Off?

Did a little bit of searching on the forums, but never found the answer I was looking for. Hope you guys can help me.

A few days ago i've been trying to find out how to turn ESP off on my 98 c43. Is there anything specific that needs to be done? I pushed the button ESP on the console while in D, at a stop light, but nothing happens. I tried holding down the button as well, but nada.

Shouldn't the triangle between the tach turn on when ESP is off? Forgive my ignorance, my c230 never had ESP. Not like it needs it anyway.

There is no true "off"... merely "on" and "low". It may say ESP off but in reality its still kicking in but just not as intrusively.

The only way to completely disable it is disconnect the sensor in engine bay (NOT recommended).

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, i'd definitely am not into the idea of disconnecting wires. But how do i know that pressing ESP on the center console has ANY effect? It feels like a useless button as of right now.

Do we just press ESP, and then it will turn into "low" mode? How would i know? Aside from attempting to skid around, ofc...

Yeah man, picked up a metallic (or obsidian? eh) black 1998 c43 last saturday. I have yet to make a new thread because i haven't had time to take good pics of it.

When i get time i'm definitely going to make sure that the ESP button is attached to something, thanks for the tip!

Probably a retarded question, but did you press the side of the button without the symbol on it? The big orange triangle will light up in your face when the ESP is on the low setting, so there is no mistaking the situation unless either the switch or indicator is not working.

Yeah, i pressed both the ESP off top button, and then the bottom one that is blanked out.

No triangle popped up :[ i guess the switch is disconnected from the wiring, that's my best guess at this time...

I'm not familiar where the ESP button is on a C43. If it's located close to the
shifter, something liquid (like coffee) may have spilled on it.
On my 210-e55 I'm very careful where I put my coffee. I always use
the rear armrest cupholder

It's up above the AC controls, right below the center vents.

No, what I mean is I spin wheels in every single corner and can do gorgeous burnouts. And I don't even know what ASR feels like. This is on expensive Pirellis too.

Also, my car is 1996. I have a button much like the seat heater buttons that says ASR, but it doesn't do a whole lot. Two owners back the car got rewired to make it a little more autocross friendly. I got under the car and found all shocks to be Bilstein Sports. I remember someone on here mentioning recently that these came with Billy HDs, which is nice I guess.

Yeah HD's are probably right. my 160k stock shocks seems to compress and expand at the same rate as the brand new sports I just put on it.

So here's the situation, after much experimentation:

ESP is naturally OFF when i turn on the car. I have a 50/50 chance of the triangle on the dash lighting up if i press the esp off button within 10 seconds of turning on the car. ESP will turn on and only will turn on if i press the bottom esp button and then when triangle light turns off.

Weird, eh? LOL.

When the esp is turned "off" all it does is stop the computer from hindering your engine but the brake hindering remains below 80 kmh I believe, after 80 kmh they decided it was too dangerous and could cause a wreck so the brake hindering doesn't activate.

Does anyone can confirm if "ESP" module from "W210 E55 or W208 CLK55" will work with our C43s....??
