John, its funny you posted today. I was starting to feel guilty about putting this off for so long so I'm going to begin the tweeking on the mold today after work. I need to expand the edges of the piece to conpensate for the bit of thickness that the vinyl added to the original plastic part (as I took a mold off of the plastic part without the vinyl). This will ensure that "proper and perfect fit". Hang in there guys ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

haha thanks Denis! How is the C36? I'm almost positive my buddy took a few pics of your car at the DUBs carshow this past weekend, could that have been you, silver C36, same amg rims and rear spoiler as yours!?
Anyhow I hope you have figured out whats up with your 36, if not I should have some time now. Past 2 weeks were rediculous between work, exams, and not getting ANY sleep

Thanks guys, same here! The second to last mold has been poured, the mold material will need a few weeks to get it to size then it's a cakewalk from there.

Enlarged mold is DONE! It ended up taking FOREVER for the materials to work the way they were suppose to. Perfect size now, pouring resin later today, pics to come!
I'll be able to start producing the carbon fiber emblems now. Even cast aluminum shifter emblems depending on how many people would want one.
The color matched resin needs some other pigments that I do not have so I'm putting those on the backburner for now.

PM me, I'll see what I can do
. Looking for a carbon fiber one?
BTW Some cool stuff to look forward to this weekend, just started laminating the engine wiring harness cover, looking sweet so far.

Another FYI I wanted to share. I just graduated from using trashbags and paper towels for my vacuum bagging setup! Took the plunge and ordered some professional peelply, breather, and bagging film so my results should start looking 100% professional now. Also picked up some more 2x2 twill CF......good things to come

I'm Back!
Quick teaser:
![](http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y60/appatula/Mercedes/AMGC36/Engine_Wiring_Harness_CF_WetLayup_1/IMG_0094.jpg)
The surface looks uneven due the the irregularities in resin thickness, this was taken after the third layer of resin. Once I get a couple more layers on I can start sanding to even it out and it will look absolutley amazing. So far I'm pretty happy with it, a few mishaps since its been so long but I managed to salvage it. Those of you who have seen my other stuff know what I can do with my buffing wheel after I sand it nice and flat
.
Also note that this is purley a wet layup over an existing cover. I have ANOTHER (thank you ebay) wiring harness cover all flanged up and ready to make a mold so I can pop out CF overlays for the M104 guys. Depending on how much time this one takes I have ANOTHER cover I may CF as well and sell that on here as its collecting dust....hey thats right I have on the the C36 too! Im vacuum bagging the next cover I do when my supplies come in, it'll be SO much easier and will produce a more even, rigid, and easier part to finish afterwards. I'm on a roll
!!
I will post a seperate thread with loads of photos highlighting each step when finished.

Keep me posted on whatever else you decide to make, I like what I see so far!

Hey thanks a lot man! Not a stupid question at all, unfortunatley I'm quite sure this cover will be motor specific. Thus it will fit on a M104 block not your M113 V8. I can pretty much laminate anything though, always open to new challenges so PM me if you have any ideas....This reminds me I promised Paul I would be working on a CF intake lid and assembly...good to stay busy I suppose!

John, thanks a lot! No worries, all of you will have front row seats on anything that I conjure up this summer. I forgot how much I love doing this stuff....

I could use one of these on my 500e. I'm using a 202 knob anyhow, and the mercedes star just popped off before I left for vacation. I'm guessing it would be a total PITA to make one for just 1 person though :-/

That'd be sick! Man, there was a little group buy about a month ago over at 500ecstasy on shift knobs. The emblem was a Mercedes star with "V8" lettering beneath it. They paid over a hundred dollars each. If we would have seen this thread before then, maybe I could have conviced them to do a GB of these instead!
