AMG 3.6 swap

Hey guys,
I hope someone can help me out. I'm considering swapping the 3.6 into my W201 and I've got a few quetions:

Which model years did the C36 come with ASR? I'm guessing that if the engine had ASR, I will have to make some modifications...

Any advise on what to look out for? Unfortunately, the engine is already out of the car so it can't be started, easily anyway... It has 72k miles and that's about all I know at this point.

I've read a little bit about an emmisions air pump or something... Can this be deleted? Also, how many O2 sensors do these engines have?

Thanks in advance for any tips/info!

A guy I work with right now is doing this swap. ASR is an option in most years. The throttle actuator is really the only difference on the engine. Other than going stand alone fuel injection it is a pretty big project. You will need the HFM and EA/cc module and wiring. Use pre '96 for this due to drive authorization. The engine just bolts in with m103 engine mounts. Pretty much all the emissions items can be deleted if you want.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Sorry, but the terms HFM and EA/cc module is new terminology to me, what are these things?

What is different about the throttle actuator? I read that the cable is longer for the 3.6, other than that will I need to make any modifications/wiring changes? (and honestly I don't know what a throttle actuator is/does... is it the equivilant to the EHA valve on the M103 engines?

It seems like the swap itself is very straight-forward... It will even bolt up to my 5MT!! The hard part will be wiring everything up. Thankfully I have a good friend who is a mechanic so he should be able to help me out with some of that kind of stuff if I get lost lol

Yes the HFM is the engine management computer for the electronic injected m104 engines. The EA is electronic accelerator and CC is cruise control, these two are handled by the same computer. If you do not have any of this. A good place to start is with a complete donor car like a E320 or a C280 or C36. Otherwise just get a standalone fuel injections system and go crazy. The actuators for ASR are wired differently also and they can not be interchanged. The throttle actuator is the thing that lets more air in or less air depending on your right foot.
Good luck.

Whipple, all M104's have the HFM management right? I thought they did but someone was telling me that they did not. I have a 93' 300E 2.8L 24V DOHC, that should have the HFM right?
How much hp will a custom ECU or ECU tune add?
Know of any other good Perf. upgrades for my car?
And does my car have ASR in it? I know the 500E has it. And all it does is make the Acceleration feel faster correct?

The easiest way to do it is just buy a C36 AMG... ironically enough, its cheaper than trying to buy the parts. C36s are $5-6k (sadly)... but at that point... why not just sell the W201 & keep the C36 (sort of a catch 22).

just saying

1997 and up m104s were ME-2 and 1992 w140's had LH_SFI. But yes the 1993 300e is HFM. As far as chips go I have never known anyone using one so I can not say. A custom ecu can do a little in power due to being able to add some timing. Hardly worth the several thousand investment unless you plan on adding boost.
