Is there a rev limiter on the C36 ? Help

I am planning to buy a 1996 c36, and was recently checking out a c36 in my town. When I was revving the engine (when the car was idling in P gear), the engine will not allow me to rev over 4000 rpm. Whenever I hit 4000 rpm, the engine hesitates, as though as rev limiter kicked in. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the engine. Please help.

Regards,

Ben

yes and no. if u have in P or N, u can't get over 4000 rpm. the engine gets real rough btw. drive it in any other gear (not R i hope), and u won't have the problem

The ECU knows that the car is not moving and will kick in the rev limiter at 4k. Once the car is moving then the rev limiter moves back to redline.

Ha! The owner must have been real stoked with you jumping on the throttle like that in PARK. I'm assuming he/she wasn't armed...
