Also something that scared me today that may be a quick fix to your ASR issue, check the throttle cable. I pulled the cable manually today to open up the throttle plate to clean out a tube that was causing an MIL for the EGR, and every time after I'd start the car and the ASR malfunction would come on. After a bit i figured out it was only at idle it would come on. if I started it and drove and kept it above 2k it wouldn't come on, but as soon as I stopped it did, transmission not shifting and weird pedal feel and everything. When I got back home I went to look at the throttle cable and the top part had come out of the idle setting bolt a little bit, so I pushed it back in and jiggled it around a little more and it was fine after that. Maybe this is another one of my ASR stories that doesn't relate to you at all, but if it comes back again I'd try messing with the throttle cable connections.
