my experience is that when you buy them new, they are okay to put in and you might see some small gain and sound
but
it is when you take them out to re-oil them yourself. it is dangerous because too much oil will damage the MAF
but bought new should be fine

Thing is, they ARE naturally overoiled from the factory; when you get it, rip open the package and take a look for yourself. If you want to run the risk of MAF failure, then by all means, pop it right in. It MAY or MAY NOT cause MAF failure, it's still highly debated. But we can agree that we all very well know that Mercedes MAF sensors are VERY sensitive and are prone to fail from almost anything. They're about $300 to replace too.

I'm getting mine in the mail by around wednesday. I'm going to personally let it dry out for a few hours at the very least, it's not worth the risk imo. I already even visited and toured the K&N factory over in Riverside. They claim they don't overoil, but honestly, just feel the fabric on the filter. Oil stains right onto the fingers.

+1 not worth the risk. I would totally move to K&N but with the oil issues (causing MAF to fail) I've heard from most user in MB and Audi boards alike, im not that interested.

So this is a test done by an independent enthusiast on a BMW e30 air box with an assortment of filters to see which actually flowed better. Big surprise is a paper Mahle brand filter flowed better than the K&N and offers more protection.

I would keep to standard (reputable) OEM filters. Save the trouble and hassle with the MAF playing up

i have been using the KN drop in on my 95 36 for almost 30000km now with 2 cleaning and oiling done already, and its running gr8 and yes u feel better mid range and slight topend increase and u get a sweeter induction noise. Just dont over oil the darn Filter guys. spray it lightly and all will be well.

if they need to be reoiled after 50000 miles with high airflow... how much oil will be lost within 1 day in free air but without any air flow.
=> Nothing!

Don't most people use these instead? Ive heard a lot about them and I think I might pick up a set for myself, unless someone gives me good reason not to.

Im pretty sure this isn't the right one for our cars but lll keep looking.

It's not too late.... order the green filters and sell the K&N on craigslist or Ebay.

eclectic assortment of cars
Are these not oiled? Why at the Green ones preferred?

Honestly, before I drove a Benz, I'd never heard of Green filters. I used K&N or BMC (and preferred the latter). I still oiled both (I had them on various cars) with the K&N oil though.

Green filters are not oiled, they are the prefered filter (besides a stock filter) to use on a mercedes (or any car with a MAF) due to the fact that they won't gum up the MAF. K&N filters are notorious for destroying MAF's, although there have been many AMG users who use them without any problems. I assume the people who are having problems with the K&N are probably over oiling the filter. I personally will not use a K&N filter on my C43 and will be getting some Green filters from Santa Claus this christmas (I can't wait!)

If you really want the greens, I am in really bad need of replacement filters but don't want to spend $100 bucks this month on the greens, Ill buy the K&N's off of you and use a hair dryer to dry out the oil until my next oil change and then go green. Pm me a price if your down.

Sounds good. If you take them for a run and still don't want them later this month, Ill take them used. I really cant justify $100 bucks (Greens) this month but ill be damned if I buy two $16 paper filters for one month... I can never pass a good used deal though!
