In the video I just found there is what appears to be an indicator next to his clock for what gear he is in, can someone explain???

This is the car you should have bought ,the 2000 tiptronic version with an updated transmission.
Unfortunatelly the 2000 cars and on suffers from poor quality display getting dead pixles.

Yeah my w210 had this type of tranny and gear indicator, pixels died all the time in these cars. It was really annoying. There a way to rig the ribbon in the cluster with some foam to fix the issue but its still pretty lame.

MB had nasty quality on these cars!
Rust and electronic gremlins gave these cars the worst rep a carmanufacturer could possible have!
MB shot them self in the foot making the w210, a total let down DISAPOINTMENT!
