love my 43

Financially would make zero sense, unless I happened to be be an ECU tuning whiz and really good with a welder and was really, really bored.
Much easier starting with the 43 in that sense..
Dropping a 55 engine in is what will set these two cars apart. Otherwise without the 55 lump, like I said before. No big diff.

Just the transmission honestly. I think you knew what you were getting into when you picked up the c43 with the prone-to-failure 722.631
But yeah... Not even 15,000 miles into my rebuilt transmission and i just started feeling a hesitant hiccup between gear 3 to 4. Let's just hope it doesnt become a problem.

Is the 5spd that fragile!?! I own a 95 36 and 500e that both use the same 4spd trans, very solid. I am sure w/ proper maint the trans in the 97+ would be much more reliable but many neglect it, not saying us enthusiasts. Mercedes used to say "its a sealed unit w/ lifetime fluid" and many people adhered to this bs belief, too bad they or the next owner will pay for it. I always give a good flush every 30-50k but would not risk it on a higher mileage car w/ no flush history. Respect your trans!
My tranny was replaced under warranty by previous owner in 2007 - 20k ago - I flushed it last year and will do again now in spring as for some reason the tranny drain plug is wet and needs to be replaced says MB. If this trans fails after all this, to hell with the whole car.
