Check out what's going down in my neck of the woods!
I have been waiting for this for a couple months!

The art museum is located right across the street from the park blocks (kinda like a Central park type park in the middle of Portland but no where near as big as Central park) and they are going to be displaying vehicles outside in the park as well as in the museum itself.
June 23rd is Mercedes and BMW day!!!!
Should be a TON of fun!

Right across the park blocks from the Art museum where they have the "Allure of the automobile" exhibit is the Oregon Historical Society where they have the "Pedal to the metal" exhibit!

I walked by it yesterday and took a gander through the windows to see if it was even worth checking it out AND IT IS!!! They have full on INDY cars on display
I am DEFINITELY going to check this out, I will post pics if they let me take some

I finally made my way down to the pedal to the metal exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society and was able to snap some pics (with my iphone so they aren't the greatest quality)
This little gem was outside the art museum (for the allure of the automobile exhibit, I will be posting pics of this as well as soon as I check it out)
It is a full on custom car called a Campbellini (designed and built by Tom Campbell who has since passed on) It utilizes a Yamaha V6 derived from the Ford Taurus SHO, unfortunately there were no specs on it but it looks fast! (here is a link to a blog about the man who designed and built this car http://tomcampbell-blog.blogspot.com/)
Here are some shots of the LARGE murals they have on the outside of the Art museum beckoning for the auto enthusiast to come and take a gander at what they have on display inside (I CAN'T WAIT!!)
It wouldn't be right if I didn't have a pic of at least 1 AMG and as luck would have it right in front of the museum just happened to be just such a creature

Here are some pics of a FULLY restored MG from 1945 that is licensed to drive on the road

Here are some pics of some indy cars, OLD and new
Every weekend starting next weekend will be "cars in the park" where they will have cars on display in the park blocks (the park blocks are kinda like a MUCH smaller version of central park located in down town Portland) this weekend will be Italian cars and on the 23rd of July is MB and BMW day for cars in the park, I will definitely be posting pics as I am planning on attending as many of these as possible.

The museum was hitting the LA Section of MBCA for cars to display on the 23rd. I'm not too sure how many So Cal cars will be trucked up for the event.

Well I made it down to cars in the park but unfortunately I caught it at the end so I didn't get to see all of the beautiful cars on display but I did however catch the most important

FINALLY MB and BMW day had arrived and I was NOT going to miss this one. I was a little disappointed as they only had 2 AMG's but there were a couple GEMS that made up for it

And now for the belles of the ball!
This one was my favorite. I talked with the owner who said everything on the car was original just refinished and the restoration took from 1991 to 2008 The car had 700 miles on it after the restoration and he had driven it up to Portland from Salem (about a 40-60 minute drive) to the show. It is a 1955 220
The wood on the interior was just unbelievable, I have never seen such a rich interior
Of course the show wouldn't be complete without one of these on display
Had a couple convertibles as well
The show was so much fun! I spent close to 2 hours just drooling over the GEMS on display.
The only 2 AMG's were a W211 E55 and a CLK 63 which was kind of disappointing but the 220 and the 300SL gullwing made up for it

you were lucky, no rain that day??
all old skool Mercs had HQ wodden interior compared to newer Mercs.
until mid 90's I believe MB had great wodden interior on several cars after that all newer cars interior looked like plastic crap

The wood was just incredible, high quality is an understatement! It literally looked like something that belonged in a Bentley or Rolls Royce

Correction: That is a "Superbird"
NASCAR's homologation requirement demanded that vehicles to be raced must be available to the general public and sold through dealerships in specific minimum numbers. For 1970, NASCAR raised the production requirement from 500 examples to one for every two manufacturer's dealers in the United States; in the case of Plymouth, that meant having to build 1,920 Superbirds. Due to increasing emissions regulations, combined with insurance hikes for high performance cars, 1970 was its only production year.
Another car that was similar to the Superbird and had an almost identical football field goal of a wing was the Dodge Daytona which was a Charger that was modified in a similar fashion as the Superbird to compete in NASCAR

In 1971 or so, when I was a kid in NYC there was a guy in my neighborhood with a Superbird. I don't know if it had the Hemi or the 440 but all the kids in the neighborhood loved that car. Today, Hemi Superbirds start in the $250K range and go up from there. 440 Superbirds are about $100K less.
In the mid to late 1970s, Dodge/Plymouth/Chryslers were disposable cars. Bend or break one and they were typically junked. E body Cudas and Challengers were the occasional exception. With the exception of the Hemi, who knew they'd be worth anything
