DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO USE THIS
My C43 has these buttons in the center compartment but not sure what it does
or how to use it.
If I push the burton with the wrench it just flashes.
If I push the one with the I it send a beeping sound every two seconds through
the phone system.

All factory except for the mods which I have listed.
There is also this.
The display shows what gear you are currently using.

The mystery thickens, but seeing your vehicle is a 2000 model and that gear display on the instrument panel, could your transmission be the 5 speed Tiptronic type gearbox which seemed to have been installed in the 43 during the last year of production?? Still don't know anything about those switches though
Sorry for the double explanation, but I see that C43AMG had beaten me with his reply....

I did but it does not say how to actually use them.
I also called the dealer but they do not or never seen a 2000 C43.
Spoke to someone at MB head office because it never came to Canada they have no info on
2000s.

The "wrench" is in the event of a breakdown it would communicate through "tele-aid" (now discontinued) to Mercedes and connect you with someone to dispatch assistance.

I did push the one with the wrench it seems to have some effect on the cluster display.
If I push the "I" button it tries to send some signal or maybe trying to dial.

Ok,
It seems the wrench button is for tele aid 250.00 per year and also works the sos button on the roof.
The I button is for self diagnostics which will display through the cluster.
just have to figure out how to use it.
I had the car for just over a year and I only just found that button.
I put 500 miles on it since last year, So I had no reason for looking in there.
My two DD's both has about 210,000 km on them.
Thanks

The system is the same in all 2000 models fitted with the telephone system. The buttons are for the Tele-Aid and Roadside Assistance (wrench) through the factory installed telephone system. The system is analog and no longer usable. When it did function it required a subscription. My advice is to pull out the phone and associated wiring in the console. The phones go bad and draw down the battery at about 500mA. The car will start OK after sitting overnight, but if it sits 2-3 days it will be dead.
