Questions under the hood.

I was poking around in prep for removing the throttle body for cleaning and am curious about this part of the intake manifold. What is this thing? and what does it do?..

Also.. what is this thing all about.. is this a fuel chiller that utilizes the AC system?

The first one is your resonance flap. It uses vacuum power to open up a flap between the two lobes of the intake mani (Where it's bolted into). Not entirely sure how that affects the flow of air in terms of emissions or performance, but I can tell you you'll probably want to take it off to get to the TB. Be careful, because my plastic got corroded, and one of the allen bolts stuck with some plastic to the intake mani. it's a $700 part new from MB.
Also be careful when cleaning the TB. Just from opening it up too much I messed mine up and had to get a new one. $1,400.

The second I always thought was just some sort of fuel filter or something. I thought those were fuel lines

P.S. the 3rd and 4th bolts for the rflap are underneath the rubber covers

Well one line that goes through is the fuel pressure line the other comes off the AC pump.

As far as the intake there are wires that run into it from the bottom. Sounds like some they are doing some sort of variable intake volume? Interesting.. wonder why..

Thanks.. Nd.. I didnt take a long look but was wondering were the other bolts were at.

Interesting. I never followed those lines I guess. Only thing that would make sense is some cooler. Odd

Yes I believe there is just a sensor inside letting the ecu know when the flap is open. The actually opening though is controlled by vacuum. Pretty cool little piece. Just no idea what it does either

Sure, the second one is the Fuel Cooler #: "140 476 02 17" or "129 476 03 17", both are the same.......
