misfire, new diagnostic maybe ?

hi guys, I have a problem of Misfire when I go at more than 3500 rpm or when I try to accelerate to hard. otherwise it never does it, but my idle is acting weird, it's not stable (up and down between 500 and 800 rpm)

at first I thought it could be my spark plugs or my ignition wires. So today to get a quote at the Dealer for parts, I asked the guy and he told me to check the main wiring engine (He told me in french and I don't know how to translate it) but basically, it's supposed to be on the top of the engine and he told me that oftenly on does models, theses wires would heat and dry and then break.

He also told me that new, thoses wires could cost around 1500 to 2000 $ but some guys sell refurbish ones for like 800.

My car is a C36 AMG 1996.

So I'd like to know if you guys have ever heard about that kind of thing and could enlighten me.

Thanks

Had the exact same problem. It was the wire harness. Some people on the forum re-do theirs. I ended up paying for a new one. $1,500 installed.

I made mine last an extra few months by wiggling a few of the connector wires on the top of the motor while it was running at idle, until it idled well. That is a good way to diagnose if the harness is your problem.

Do a search here using the words "c36 harness". Plenty of information

Jumph4x had some good DIY posts on the C36 harness. I am unsure why but they made them biodegradable which eventually led to failure.

Jumph4x no longer has a C36 and I am unsure if he is still active on this site but do an advanced search on post by him and I am sure you will find the thread I am talking about.

I'm going to do a Diagnostic and a Compression test next monday, I'll give you more details.

I saw that the tubing that passes over the engine (that goes to the air filter) was loose on the right side (right at the kind of valve thing, I don't know what it's called) so I tightened it and now the problem is fairly the same, but in a different way.

I mean that, only when I start the car, on the first 2 or 3 secondes it goes at 1000 rpm at the idle, then it drops to 500 like if it was looking for air or having problem and it makes a lot of noise. then it get back to around a normal 800 rpm. After, when I put it on drive and I starting rolling, I get no power for like 2 secondes and the car in an instant go super fast, like if I was pushing it down hardly.

*I don't know if you understand want I mean, sorry english isn't my first language*

Indeed it could be an intake leak somewhere along the line. Any old brittle tubes around?

I'm not sure what brittles means, but all the tubings seems in good shape.
I'v taken a picture of my engine bay to explain more accuratly.

So for the circle, it's the place that was loose that I tightened like I told you.

and the arrow is something I nothice, right under the air tubing (the one with the 3.6 on it) there is 2 joints. the on with the arrow is broken and leaking but a small bit. Does it have anything to do ?

Could be, because the leak is after the MAF measurements giving instructions to the ECU. If you have a leak after, the base info would be faulty. I'm sure some experts will be along soon....
