There are many threads on how to do this, I posted one a while ago. you can use coat hangers to do it and it can be done in 20 minutes or less.
1.) pull steering wheel out as far as it can go
2.) push modified coat hanger in between the cluster and the dash
3.) turn the hanger and pull
4.) use a pair of needle nose pliers to twist the bulbs
install in the reverse
Here is a video:
You do not need to pull the steering wheel but it does make it easier.

Mine does not pull out as it doesn't have the adjustable steering column option.
If pull is remove the steering wheel, then be very careful not to get a bloody noise with an exploding air bag
Some say (on the UK forums) that removal is greatly facilitated by removing the under dash upholstery and pushing the instrument cluster from behind.
I purchased my cluster hooks from here: http://mbspecialist.com/mercedes_web...8-050/KA-2403/

be carefull you don't scratch the outside housing when you penetrate with the hooks.
a good way is to remove bottom cover and push the cluster out from underneath the pedals.
if you suspect your cluster sits tight and you have to push hard, put a pillow on the backside of steering wheel as a protective not damaging your cluster when it pops out.
