digital outdoor thermometer

i bought my c36 about two weeks ago, and i had to replace the battery about a week after. after replacing the battery, the outdoor digital thermometer underneath the gas and water temp gauges stopped working. it is just a black screen now without any digits on it, but the backlighting still seems to be working. before i swapped batteries, it seemed to be working fine.

this is not a big deal to me, since knowing the exact outdoor temperature in farenheit degrees every second of my drive doesnt really affect my daily life, but im curious... am i supposed to reset it or something after changing the battery? or does it sound like something is broken? any suggestions on what to check, or where the sensor/computer is for this thermometer?

okay......

now my gas gauge has started to die out on me out of nowhere. this is weird. i just filled it up today, and ever since, it has been reading at 0 (no gas) most of the day, but occasionally, it will bounce back up to a full 1/1 reading for a few minutes at a time.

loose connector behind the gauge cluster? is the one that connects the digital thermometer the same one that links the gas gauge too? i shall make an attempt to check the connection tomorrow, if i get off my lazy ***.

what is the best way to pull the gauge cluster without really messing the interior up? i need to change a bulb back there anyway.

where is everybody, anyway? i feel like im talking to myself!

Yes, where are you who have the answer to the temp-meter. Mine jumped down ten degrees after battery was disconnected. Can it be adjusted back?
Is it a built in device or connected to the main engine computer or what?
(I know where the sensor is at the bumper...)

"The changing of the lamp is fairly easy. I'm going to write an article on it
and make a web site, but for now
I will give you the instructions to the best of my knowledge.

You need to remove the panel that is below the dashboard on the left side
(you drive on the left in iceland i presume
I'm from Norway you see

The panel is fastened with about 8 screws I believe. Unscrew these, dont
unscrew the screw that fastens the hood opening lever, this isn't neccesery.
Then you have to remove the left kickboard in the drivers door and the
little plastic cover by the handbrake pedal. When this is done the panel
under the dashboard can be taken down.

OK here is where the "fun" part begins.

In the W202 and most other Mercedes'es the Dashboard is not fastened with
screws. It is only pushed in with some springs.

What you do is you push the instrument cluster from the back on the left
side until it pops out (Yes you may have to put a lot of pressure on it, at
least I did in my car.) When it has popped out remove the two electrical
connections, and then you can take the dashoboard out on the right side
between the steering wheel and dashboard.

When you turn the cluster over on it's back you can se the bulbs in the
sockets. Just turn the socket with a type of pliers.

I went to my local gas station and they had the bulbs i needed, these are
very standard for all european cars.

Make shure that you change both the 2 large (on left and right side of
speedometer) and the 2 small (on the far left and far right side)

Then as they always say, putting it back in the car is reverse of removal"
