So I bought a can of Plastidip
Just ordered a plastidip can.
Wanna be clear on painting instructions?
After I have cleaned my grill, do I need to primer my grill with plastic primer b4 I apply plastidip?
After I have sprayed the 1st. coat, is it enuff with 1 hr drytime or should I let it dry until the next day?
Should I apply several layers to get thicker n stronger surface from chips?
After the grille dried, does it work with clearcoating on plastidip?
Don't know if matte black or gloss black looks best?
Does plastidip get any discoloration from tarmac cleaning solvents and car detergent?
Maybe have to get it repainted everytime after car gets washed?
Plastidip can does it expire within 6 months, paint dries up in the can and has to be thrown away?
Finally, after installing the grille, does this paint stay for long time?

You my friend are in luck, because I have Plastidipped everything from wheels to cars. And I just did my C43 grill. It's very easy!
1. Clean with rubbing alcohol.
2. Lay on flat surface and apply 1 coat. Wait about 5-10 minutes.
3. Apply a much thicker coat, nice even sprays with your arm.
4. Allow dry for 10 minutes.
5. Apply one more final coat, nice and thick and even.
Allow to dry for about...20 minutes. Then pop that sucker back in. Should come out nice and smooth. It will last for quite a while too, and the best part is you can always touch up areas with light mists and it won't look like over spray.
It doesn't come off from car wash, and I have used Quick Detailer on it and it cleans fine. You have to PEEL it off, not rub it off.
Any other questions feel free to let me know!

Can I ask what you guys pay for an 11 oz can of PlastiDip? Here in Canada, it's anywhere from C$18-20 per can. Canadian dollar is basically on par with the USD at the moment. Im heading on a road trip to the US next month and I understand that Home Depot has the cans for US$6. If that's the case I'm stocking up!!!

$6.79 the last time I bought one. The prices vary from store to store and city to city.
Everything is damn expensive back home (Canada).

thanks for the input guys.
as soon as I get my dip I will do this mod.
grille painted in black should look brutal on a silver car, will be a nice contrast, like old skool AMG's from the 80's.

so I dipped my grille today.
I emptied the whole can coating by coating.
First I shook my can all night long that's what it felt like, putting first coating didn't go well!
Spraycan nozzle dripped some wetspots on different places on my grille, these drips didn't dry for long time, now these drips look like zit stains.
WTF!
I waited about 15 to 20 minutes between every coating and it looks like on some places plastidip paint never wanted to dry and now these stains looks like being glossy instead under the fluorecent light in my garage.
Will everything dry out tomorrow and then it smoothens out or what?
Am I going ruin my plastidip painting if I use normal clearcoat from another manufacturer applying this to get a glossy finish?
I will post pics in a few days
I hope the result will be better after everything dried...??

Plastidip makes a clear product as well. If it were me, I would just leave it. Painting grilles almost always ends in disaster because you can never protect it fully against rock chips.
The exception is using Plastidip, which is rubbery as you've discovered, so rocks will (kinda) bounce off. The other exception is to use vinyl wrap, as it'll have a similar effect with rocks.

How you doin?
Yeah, tomorrow we'll know the result, that frikkin' spraycan cost me approx $30 dollars spraycan + $7 for shipping, it was damn expensive.

How am I? Overworked, stressed out and in need of a long holiday. Fortunately, one is coming and soon. And best of all, I'll be able to grab a bunch of car parts that are waiting for me in the US....and I'm eager to grab a bunch of PlastiDip for less than half the cost of what I would pay locally. Always good!!

So here are finally my new pictures of my painted grille.
What ya'll think?
Is it a yay or nay ?????????
First it looked weird, but now that I look more 'n' more on my car this mod seems to give my car a more aggressive look like 80's AMG's
Now I definately like it.
Maybe it's not to everyones taste, but on a silver painted car this grille looks awsome as a black contrast.
Have to buy more dip cans to have as a spare for future repaints.
Next time I will do a glossy style grille.
First old skool:
