curse of the "check engine" light
Happened yesterday, very hot again and about a 1/2 tank of gas. Bought a new MB gas cap (trying to think optimisically about the fix) but no change. I've started the car at least 5 times and done at least 20 miles/trip since the cap change. Is there anyway to read the codes without a trip to the dealer (or other shop)?
It's a 99 C43 with about 55k on the clock, seems to be running fine and gets about 25mpg highway.
Thanks
Although it was a good suggestion I was nervous about letting some $19k/year Autozone employee plug anything into my car and do who-knows-what to the computer so I made an appt with a highly recommended indy mechanic nearby. Problem was he couldn't take me for 3 weeks so I stopped by the dealer to have to code read.
To my astonishment, they read the code and replaced the MAS completely under warranty, even though the car is 5k over mileage and I didn't buy it there.
Once in a while you get lucky.
