How did C43's start life? As a V8 production car from MB or a converted 4 or 6 car sent over to AMG??

I think they just had the car assembled on the assembly line along with other C-class, but with the engine sent in from AMG. I think only the S, CL, and SL are put together at AMG. All other cars are assembled on the line. Not sure tho.

i'm sure scorch will add (or correct me also) :p ...but here goes...at least for the c36...

it starts in bremen where all the older w202 c-class is assembled... then certain items are added b4 heading down to affalterbach for amg. these include brakes, springs, sway bars, wheels/tires, fender flares, quicker steering ratio box, and sturdier final drive.... then at affalterbach, a hand-massaged hand built 3.6 inline-6 is obtained from the stock 2.8 inline-6 is stuffed in, front/side/rear skirts are added (which have incorporated air ducts for brake cooling),...etc...

i'm not sure about the 4.3L v8 tho... the rest of the c43 should be similar to the c36, minor touches of difference here and there... but the engine... scorch, i can't remember, but did u say this was basically the same one as the e430? just a little more power?

oh yeah, I just thought of this. If you check your window MSRP sticker (if you still have it) it'll say the final assembly point. If it says affalterbach, you can probably be sure that the engine is put in at AMG's plant instead of the regular assembly plant that put together the car.

I don't believe the C36 window sticker said anything but Bremen. I believe final assembly was still done in Bremen.

On the C43, I believe the engine was still assembled in Affalterbach, although the parts changes were minor from a standard 4.3L engine.

it's hard to say what cars were done where!

The VIN doesn't indicate anything else.
