C43 VS 135i
Just ran into a friend while driving and after a bit of chit chat at the light we both went for it.
Few things I noticed about his car:
He had the 6 piston brakes and it was a manual.
But anyways we both went for it and I heard his tires squeak as he shifted into second which made him pop out in front for a split second but after that he disappeared behind slowly. I just had my tranny reset a few hours earlier by doing the battery trick btw
Couldn't really tell how bad he fell behind because I had to switch three lanes in a very small distance to hop on the freeway.
Anyone else race any of the 35 series beemers?

You did the 5.4l conversion right? If not im surprised you beat him with the 4.3l

The 3.0L turbo Bimmers are basically a grab bag. You could end up squaring off against a stocker or a tuned monster and you won't know until the light turns green. It's my experience that if it looks like an enthusiast is behind the wheel, you can expect at least a basic tune (~360hp). Those will give my car serious a run..

I have a coworker with a 335i with meth injection, downpipes, intake, and a piggyback tuner and he put down almost 400 at the wheels and around 470 lb ft. I'm very surprised to hear that even a stock 135i would get beat, as the 300 crank hp is considered underrated on those cars. They put more down at the wheels than the crank hp would indicate.

Roll raced a 335i last week; dead even up to 125-130ish. Passed him and pulled a couple cars around 140mph. We both slowed & as he passed, exchanged bromance thumbs ups. I'm assuming it was stock, but still surprised I even passed him, especially carrying tools that day. I've only removed the resonator/secondaries. Ol' girl still has some life in her.

Saw this, had to chime in.
I had an FBO 135i and that car is seriously quick.
Do you know if he had at least a jb4 or anything like that? I'm willing to bet that he was stock because I don't think a c43 is giving a lightly modified 135i any issues. My 135i was basically as fast as my c63 is.
From the factory those cars come so dialed back it's not even funny. Hands down the car that saw the biggest gains off a tune that I've owned.

i autocross with a bmw club and there is a guy there that with a 135i i am able to beat by about 1 second on a 45 second course on average. though he is not the best driver, that being said he is also not a novice.
given a good driver the car would beat my C43 i assume. i have the B8 shocks with euro springs and Re-11 tires. i know he has sway bars and the sticky summer tires on his car.

^ Cars are made for different purposes. The 135i wasn't made for Auto-x. It was made for circuits that have decent stretches and highway pulls. The car is an absolute monster on a highway pull.
You can't judge all cars base on autox. A miata is going to beat a maybach in autox but that doesn't mean a miata is the best car.
Pretty cool though that you're getting around in a c43 quicker than a 1 series. I wouldn't really think of a c43 as an autox car but I don't really know anything about these.

everything about your comment seems way out of line, haha.
first off, what car other than a miata was "made" for autocross? maybe an MR-2? no cars are made for autocross, its an event to test driving and handling skills.
my input about autocross was merely to add to the discussion of comparing the 2 cars. IMO a chance drag race on the STREET, really wont tell you much about 2 cars compared to each other. autocross takes more factors into account, braking, handling, acceleration, lateral grip, etc.
even better would be track day...
where did i try to judge all cars based on autocross?
also love how you took the most extreme example of somthing vaguely related to what i said and used it to prove some point that is not valid to the discussion
and yes C43 is not a great autocross car, but i have found that its not that bad once you learn how to drive it. best part about autocrossing a C43 is becoming a good driver and beating guys in 135's that dont know how to drive and think fast cars are just about performacne numbers in magazines.
back on topic... the C43 really shouldn't have beat a 135i from a stoplight race, the 135 is about a second faster to 60 and 3 seconds faster to 100 than a stock C43. but a 5.4 conversion... different story.
also, the driver being equal, a 135 should beat a C43 in most any driving categories, drag race, road track, autocross.... maybe not braking but that would be about it i would think.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being least extreme and 10 being Xtreme!!
That response was a 10.
On a side note, I was on my R6 the other day and smoked a 135i. It was definitely tuned.
That is all.

well in actuality it would depend on what you were looking at to determine what is considered to be "the best car". comfort.. then no, straight line speed... then no, interior features... again, no. but if you wanted to find out what was a better sports car, or more fun to drive, or better handling, etc etc etc.. then autocross probably would prove that a miata is a better car.. all depends on what we are talking about specifically.

I was neither flaming nor trolling. Seriously... I'm actually a pretty respectful guy on the forums regardless and I'm sorry that you caught the wrong message. No sarcasm here...
As for where I got your judgement on autox vs how good a car is... I grabbed that from the post above where you said something like autox is a better judge of how "good" are car is.
Also, my initial inputs are strictly with regards to a 135i in a straight line race. It is really fast with a tune and downpipes alone. I've mentioned a few times that I don't really know much about C43's but I highly doubt a c43 is beating a 135i (especially if it is tuned) in a drag race at a light. That is where this thread began...
As for the miata/maybach comparisons. We're on the same page there and that I used pretty extreme examples. The point being that a 135i isn't a great auto-x car even for experienced drivers. I understand auto-x comes down to driver skill and such and it was really a compliment that the c43 was auto-xing as fast as a 135i. Something that I really thought was impressive for the MB.
We agree that all cars have different purposes and that comparing a miata to a maybach isn't a fair fight depending on what all is being judged. It was just a point to be made that everything is made for different reasons. And the fact is this thread started out as a drag race with a 1 series, not autoxing maybachs.
Again, not entirely sure why you really dug in. Sorry for whatever reasons you found to lash out. No harm done
As for you... So you beat a 1 series on a sportbike. Wow, pretty neat.

Apparently C63 owners don't have a sense of humour.
I predict a comment about an irrelevant motorcycle story in a MB thread and more justification as to why you are right and I am wrong.
3..2..1.. GO!
We try and have fun around here.
