I had a strange encounter with my car on May 1st?

May 1st. was the premiere for my beauty queen.
A few mods coming up this year hopefully?

So on May 1st. I went to my garage to start my car for the first time in 2014.
I immediately felt a disgusting fuel smell around my car, it turns out my fuel filter or the fuel pump had pushed out gas on the floor!
There was some wet spots on the garage floor.
I didn't want to take her out on the premiere drive.
I shut her off and I went home.
I called a mechanic I know and he told me that the fuel filter had corroded, I told him I don't drive my car in winter, she sleeps for 6-7 months in the garage.
Mechanic replied, doesn't matter if I drove in winter, he said every 3-5 years fuel filter replacement, it doesn't matter how much I drive or little I drive?

He said that fuel filter is made of aluminium, filter bracket is steel.
This is a bad combination for rust, weaker material goes bad first!

For a week and a ½ my car was in my garage till yesterday Friday 9th of May
I had ordered some parts from stealership and I had to go by car to get my parts, I took my car even if I knew she was leaking fuel from Down under.

Here is the funny thing which puzzles me!?
When I started my car there was NO fuel leak anymore?
WTF!
I drove my car, fuel gauge needle was showing FULL tank of gas.
I went to a burger joint had a meal, came out after 30 minutes, checking under the car and there was NO wet spots from leaking fuel line!
What da heck was going on May 1st when she was leaking gas on my garage floor?

Anyone experiance this?

Could it have been that there was some leftover fuel in the fuel filter which was pushed out?
Don't know what to believe here?
I'm taking my car to my specialist Güru and he will replace the filter for me.

My C36 does the exact same thing. If I don't start the car for a month, it will drip gas from the filter/pump area until I shut it off and let it sit for five minutes. After that it will not leak again.....until I forget to run the car for an extended period. The only thing I can think of is there must be a seal that dries out and leaks. Once wet again from running/leaking it swells and again seals.
