C36 BRAKELIGHT BULB BLOWING
MY 1997 AMG KEEPS BLOWING PASSENGER SIDE BULB KEEPS POPPING.
I HAVE HAD AN AUTO ELECTRITIAN LOOK AT IT TWICE.
THE FIRST TIME, HE WIRED THE LIGHT DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY,RULING OUT POWER SURGES,AND I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WENT AGAIN,I SHOULD TRY RENEWING THE BULB HOLDER UNIT. I DID, AND IT CURED THE PROBLEM FOR ROUGHLY 9 MONTHS.
TEN DAYS AGO,IT BLEW AGAIN,TURNING THE BULB A MILKY COFFEE COLOUR AND I CHANGED THE BULB,AND TWO DAYS LATER,POP,IT WENT AGAIN,SO NOW I HAVE BLOWN THREE BULBS IN TEN DAYS. I BOUGHT THE BULBS FROM MY LOCAL MAIN DEALER,SO THE BULBS ARE UP TO SPEC.
I FOGOT TO MENTION THAT BEFORE THE BULB UNIT WAS WIRED DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY,THE BULB WOULD NOT JUST BLOW,IT WOULD EXPLODE!!!!!!!
THOUGHTS ANYONE??????
I TOOK THE WHOLE LIGHT CLUSTER OUT OF THE CAR AND HAD A GOOD LOOK INSIDE WHERE THE BULB LIVES AND NOTICED THAT THE TOP HALF OF THE RED LENS HAD MELTED OVER TIME, GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE BULB,AND HAD FORMED A PERFECT BULB SHAPE IMPRESSION IN THE RED INTERNAL LENS.
SO, I HAD TO DO SOME "SERIUOS PLASTIC SURGERY" TO REMOVE THE LENS,WHICH HAD WORKED LOOSE OVER THE YEARS,AND ENDED UP RESTING ON THE BULB, CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT AND EXPLODE!!!!!.
I HAVE NOW LIFTED THE LENSE UP AND WEDGED IT, AND GLUED IT IN TO PLACE.SORTED
SO, IF YOU SHOULD EVER BY SOME BRABUS SMOKED, OR ANY AFTERMARKET LIGHT UNITS,DO AS I DID ,AND SAVE YOURSELF A SMALL FORTUNE IN BULBS AND LABOUR COSTS!!!!
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT CHANGEING YOUR FRONT GRILL?
I CHANGED MINE WITH AN AVANTGARDE GRILL,LOOKS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC 'CHIPMAKER'.!!!!!
I GOT MINE ON E-BAY FOR JUST UNDER £38 LAST YEAR,AND WAS A PERFECT FIT,CHECK THEM OUT ON E-BAY NOW, ONLY 41 QUID.
